After all of that nonsense last night with the Official Bunraku trailer that was neither official... or a trailer, I've been thinking about copyright issues

I totally get what you are saying here, and I pretty much agree. I spoke about it on twitter earlier, but I think there is a fine line between free advertising and stealing when it comes to things like youtube videos and scans and such.
I'm not going to lie, the only reason I know of GACKT, Vamps, Miyavi, etc is because of youtube. However, I make it a point to try to purchase the things I really enjoy once I've sampled them. Not everyone does that, and therein lies the problem.
My shady line-drawing (and I believe we are all guilty of it to some extent) is with older, out of print stuff. If there isn't a way for me to buy a legitimate copy of something (like, for example, the Mars concert) I'm not going to feel too guilty about downloading. I know that I can buy physical copies from auction sites, but not only do I run the risk of getting bootlegged merch, the same amount of money gets to the artist in the end: $0
Yeah.. I'm far more relaxed about things I can't buy too. That's why I'll download TV appearances and things without thinking twice about it.
There is a really fine line and it's hard to know where to draw it. That's why I like to listen to what the artists say about the line. Seems the safest option XD
A little bit off topic, still still fall under this category. People who scan magazines, and then says "Credit me" 'what credit?!' me - shouldn't credit be given to the photographers!
I admit that I'm a little guilty of this. In my case it's because scanning involves a lot more than just putting the magazine/whatever in the scanner and pressing "scan". To get good quality scans, it usually takes some time in Photoshop first so for me, it's credit for the work it took to make the scans look good. It sucks to spend a couple of hours on something only to have other people claim that they did the work :-/
Oh, we all walk it, don't we? The fine line of copyright infringement... =/
I agree with what you say, and Amber. I feel like it's OK if sharing leads to more benefit/profit for the artist in the end, rather than a drop in sales. Of course this is rather difficult to predict, too, but that's why I'm not happy when an entire concert is shared. A tease here and there, sure. But the whole thing? =/

I'd love to be the fanclubs of lots of other bands but thanks to DEARS, I can't afford it. So I don't look at their stuff.

I like how we handle things in OGYD though.
