Most of you know I'm a total news junkie, and because I'm not at my ideal job, I also follow economic news to try to figure out my prospects. Ultimately, however, I have no idea how the economy works, or I'm incredibly naive. I read this article a few minutes ago ( Read more... )

dude, yes! (okay and for the record I'm obviously no economist either, but I know a thing or two about a thing or two.) this is where karl marx had it right, speaking of socialism and related things: he said that all capitalist systems will eventually fail because they rely on endless expansion, which is obviously impossible. the problem is that if you're a big corporation and you're not growing even bigger, you're losing, especially with inflation being what it is. google can't just be like, "okay, we're pretty fucking rich now so I guess we can just all kick back and have a few beers." they need to constantly be focused on expansion because, if their profits aren't increasing, they're essentially heading toward bankruptcy. okay, I totally lost my train of thought but I think what I'm getting at is, even though google hiring more people is logically sound to people like you and me, it's not logically sound within the context of capitalism because they should be focused on profit, profit, profit ( ... )
