Disclaimer: Not my toys, or my playground.
People are envious. They say Kaiba has everything; a business, an overly impressive IQ, some of the most formidable cards in existence and millions to his name. People think this life is perfect and wasted on someone as selfish as Seto Kaiba.
But Seto can hardly sleep; his mind overtaxed and brimming with worries. Not that anyone could tell to look at him; he’s developed a poker face that could win any match. He’s come to depend on it like oxygen.
He’d never planned on being a businessman, he’d never planned at all; sure he had ideas, ambition, but he knew those would never had lead him here. Those childish fantasies would never have had him straight faced and behind an office desk for most of his teenage years. Yet he didn’t despise his job, he just felt it was somewhat lacking. He didn’t feel challenged.
Since being adopted he’d been isolated from others his age. He’d been driven through a tiresome routine designed to turn his untrained intellect into something marketable. A million dollar media whore.
Seto Kaiba certainly didn’t feel that this was an ideal lifestyle.
In his rare moments of free time he was bored, he had no friends, only colleagues and staff. He had long ago forgotten what it was like to use leisure time to enjoy himself. Instead he read more, studying anything he felt would be of relevance, or designing new products for people who had friends to use them with. He hated the irony of that.
But still he’d numb all these emotions, lock himself away behind closed doors, be dragged out and paraded at cooperate events and hear the calls of his fans as they pointed and cheered; “He’s so lucky! He’s got everything.”
“What I wouldn’t give to be Seto Kaiba!” and he would sigh and sign autographs, trying desperately not to meet their eyes for fear of any being able to see through him.
What burns him most is that given the choice, he’d do it all again in a heartbeat.
He’ll destroy himself to save his brother. Because while Seto studies and tares himself apart Mokuba is making friends. His little brother is enjoying the splendour his riches can provide and smiling his way through the childhood that Seto never had. Seto has slaved to save his money and his business to ensure that Mokuba will never need to feel enclosed or restricted like he has. He’s given everything of himself so his brother will be safe, secure and happy.
That is why he has traded his life, and people think Seto Kaiba is selfish.
