Good, stark depiction of what could happen if Sam tapped into those powers and was driven by nothing but getting Dean back, was OK with all the casualties along the way. And it definitely hurts to think of Dean so unlike the old Dean, and Sam changed, too.

I love the simplicity of his logic here. It makes sense that he’d think this way, that with everything they’ve been through and all the times they’ve cheated death, there’d have to be a way back for Dean.
When he awoke three hours later there were crusts of dried blood circling both of his nostrils and nobody at all in a four-room radius.
Eek!
And Dean tried to claw his face off when he awoke, eyes tinged with oily black. It was a madman’s reaction, a brainless thing’s reaction.
This image makes me hurt.
And he turns Johnny Cash up as loud as the speakers will go, listens to a long-gone ( ... )
