I love this section too - The beating of her heart defies the execution itself, always hitting on the off note, as though deliberate. She does not flinch, or stir as the drum beats louder, only steps out of the situation, and manages instead to hide in some precious slur of a memory, and in the space between, there is nothing.
And the sex scene was just beautiful. Scant detail given but all the more sensuous because of it. Especially this line - she breathes wasted breath, gasping in time with the heavy staccato of his thrusts, and in desperate sync with the caress of cellos, singing a choking, wordless aria of flight. That's gorgeous.
