Making sure to hide my own emotions, I shrugged. “Yeah… you don’t have a problem with it, do you?”

“No,” he said, a smile forming on his face - but I could see the strain behind it, “As long as your happy, then that’s all that matters.”

I smiled back, trying to hide the nervousness and sadness behind his reaction. “Well that’s good, since you’re my best friend and your opinion means a lot to me.”

“I’m cool with it.”

'No, you're really not,' was all I wanted to say… but instead, I replied with a small, “Good to know, Pierre.”

Part 5

We stayed silent for nearly a minute afterwards.

It was only broken when Gerard, Frank and Ashleigh returned, each of them carrying a chair.

“So we were thinking that if we pull this table over then we’d have enough room?” Frank suggested.

I nodded quickly before moving over to it, Gerard quickly following.

“What happened?” he asked, brushing our hands together and linking them so he could squeeze mine in comfort.

I sighed slightly. “I don’t know… but Pierre’s not okay with it.”

“Hey,” Gerard said, reaching up to hold my cheeks and stroke them with his thumbs as he made me look at him, “Just talk to him about it. I’m sure he’ll be fine.”

I nodded, not really believing him as I muttered, “Yeah, sure.”

“Hey,” he said again before placing a soft kiss to my lips. “It’ll be fine.”

A forced a small smile before nodding as he slipped his hands from my cheeks.

Placing one more kiss to my lips, he moved away to the other side of the table to grab it.

I copied his movements and we lifted it, moving it over to the other table where Frank was talking with Sebastien and Ashleigh.

When he realised we were close, he quickly moved away so we could put it down.

Smiling, he grabbed two chairs from a neighbouring table and positioned them before making me sit in the middle of the two of them so I was… directly facing Pierre… great.

“Hey David,” Frank said, sitting down to my right.

I turned to face him when he kissed me.

Surprised, I barely got a chance to respond before he pulled back and said with a smile, “I was jealous. Gerard got to kiss you and I didn’t.”

“Oh, I feel loved,” Gerard muttered.

Smirking, Frank turned to him and said, “Yeah, but I get to kiss you onstage… so unless I run out onto Simple Plan’s set… well, it’s pretty even, wouldn’t you say?”

“Oh man,” Pat said, laughing slightly, “Could you imagine what the fans would do if you did do that?”

I laughed. “The crowd would probably go wild.”

Gerard agreed before adding, “Yeah, the girls… and hell, some guys love that kind of shit.”

“Well duh,” Ashleigh said, “It’s fucking hot.”

I blinked and looked at her with raised eyebrows, as did the rest of the people at the table, making her blush and mumble, “What? It is.”

“Damn, never pegged you for a slash fangirl.” I smirked.

She laughed, her blush dying down. “Well, you never know, do you?”

I smiled at her while silently wishing I hadn’t spent the good part of six months silently envying and mildly hating her; she was really fucking nice.

“Oh hey, food,” Gerard said, making me turn around and watch as two waiters started putting down our meals.

It took them two trips before everyone had theirs and only then did we all start to eat.

“Dude,” I questioned after my second mouthful, “Does anyone have any idea what I’m eating?”

Gerard poked at his. “I have no idea, but I’m thinking the phrase ‘ignorance is bliss’ is going to apply here.”

I nodded. “Yeah, I mean. Usually I’d say this,” I prodded the brown thing on my plate, “would be some kind of meat, but since it’s vegetarian… well, I’m trying and failing to figure out what it is.”

“Be thankful,” Frank said, “At least in a vegetarian dish you won’t stumble upon tripe or liver or something.”

“Oh man,” Gerard said with a laugh, “That was the funniest shit ever.”

I grinned. “That was Mikey, right? The thing in Thailand?”

Frank smirked. “Oh yeah. I swear he was totally considering converting over to my way of thinking.”

“Too bad he realised how much he’d miss all the good things in life.”

“Hey,” Frank said, pouting slightly, “Don’t talk about enjoying murder in front of me.”

Rolling my eyes, I spoke before Gerard could, “Before this gets into a wonderful argument can we get back to my question? What is this brown thing?”

Leaning towards my plate, Frank poked it with his fork and I watched it jiggle slightly.

Frank grimaced. “Um… it’s… something?”

“Wow, your deduction skills astound me.”

Pouting, he poked me with his fork before going to experiment on his own brown thing.

“You think it’s too late to order sushi?” I asked after jabbing the thing one more time.

“You do and you can forget about kissing me until you brush your teeth,” Frank answered.

“Well fine,” I said before reaching out and grabbing Gerard’s hand, linking our fingers, “I’ll just make out with Gerard then and you can eat your brown goop-thing.”

“Or you know,” Sebastien said, making me look up at him, “you could just order something vegetarian and familiar? Like maybe a croissant or a sandwich?”

I blinked before laughing. “Oh man, why the hell didn’t I think of that?”

“Because you’re an idiot,” Jeff said, smiling.

Gerard grinned. “Yeah, he is.”

I started to pout, but when Frank spoke it quickly changed to a smile.

“But he’s our idiot.”

The only thing that ruined the moment and made my smile drop slightly was seeing Pierre clench his teeth from the corner of my eye as he held his knife and fork in a death grip.
