[The sound of hurried footsteps jerked Layton out of the newspaper, and the notebook and pencil he had perched in his lap clattered to the floor as he stood up in curiosity and suspicion. Then the front door -- he ran for the front room, and just as he put his hand on the knob of the partially open door, a family picture on the small table by the front door (meant for mail and keys and things) caught his attention.

He stared. The drone wife had disappeared from the picture, and in her place... it couldn't be. He'd been told this place could bring the dead back to life, but surely not if they hadn't died in Mayfield in the first place!

He cautiously stepped outside, almost afraid to look. His voice shook as he called out.]

C... Claire?

Perhaps, if we can think of something.

[He stood up, taking her hands with him and gently tugging at her to get up.]

Come along, I'll get you settled in. There are some friends you'll have to meet, as well.

[She can't help but smile. She remembered Layton being a little conserved. However long it's been, he'd changed in good ways. It made her happy.] You'll have to introduce me to these friends of yours, then. I'd like to meet them.

Soon enough... perhaps we'll have dinner together. Until then....[He thought for a moment.]

Well, there's always the telephone, I suppose.

Dinner sounds nice... I don't mind cooking suddenly if you want to have it tonight? Any friend of yours is a friend of mine.

[He shook his head.] That might be a little short-notice. I'll arrange something, don't worry.

[She smiled more brightly, then drawing a hand to his cheek, pulled up to give him a very quick kiss on the cheek.] Then I'll just have to make something for the two of us.

[By the time he went to return the kiss, the moment had passed. He'd have to get her back for that later.]

If you're quite sure you don't mind, that would be wonderful.

[She just figured he was still as timid as he once was about it, sobb.]

Well, you do look like you could use a meal without the work. I honestly don't mind.

Alright, but I'm making dinner for you tomorrow in return. I'll see if I can find that ring in the meantime.
