I kind of miss it already, to be truthful. California had a familiarity to it; I don't know if it's because of how much like Nice it was, with the palm trees and the proximity of the ocean, or because it's just that kind of place. As you said, it's sort of like that with every holiday. I've certainly felt that way on past vacations -- spending too much time monitoring myself and not enough time just enjoying the moments. That especially happened when I was younger (i.e., 20s). And every trip has its ups and downs, which is why traveling with other people is so challenging. Any slight differences in personality are magnified by the unusual circumstances and forced proximity that travel entails.

Luckily, though, the negative memories fade a lot faster than the positive, and soon all you feel is "God that was a good time... I wish I could do it again." That's how I felt when I went to Spain - I had moments of wishing I could just be home, and feeling so out of my element. But then after I got back, I realized how utterly amazing it all was, even the hard times.
