Election 2008

Nov 05, 2008 21:04

Nixon was the President when I was born. Ford was the President when I was a young child. However, Carter is the first President that I have any memory of. I turned 6 during his first year in office. I don't recall much about him other than I didn't like him. At all (considering that I was raised in a liberal household by parents who were social ( Read more... )

Not only...NOT ONLY a generation... Obama is inspiring the world. Seeing, hearing, reading about reactions worldwide, it's like the human populace breathed a gathered sigh of relief last night, and wept and cheered together.

It has been a dark, dank, lonely, gruesome last eight years... I'm hoping that it's going to be brighter from here on out. When Bush was elected back in 2000, it was only a week or so before my best friend passed away, so it was almost as if her passing heralded in the next eight years of suffering.

I think she'd be dancing her toes off up there in heaven, laughing and, if it's possible to meet anyone in heaven, maybe she's giving my grandfather, my opa, a hug. He'd be so proud too right now.

I wish his grandmother could have hung on for a few more days. I thought his eyes looked very sad when he came out to make his victory speech; it must have been hard for him, to have both the joy of winning and the pain of recent loss.

So I hope Toot is getting in on hugging action up in heaven too!

I really enjoyed reading this.

Personally, my memory of American politics goes back to Bush Sr. but I never really got into the entire process until these elections.

I think the USA passed their test in the eyes of the world this week ;)

Great post.

There are so many similarities to yours in my own history that it's really nice to read-- as if you dug into my brain and wrote what I wanted to say, too. :)

Originally, I intended to just make a post about this election specifically because I felt it was important to record my thoughts in this moment; so I could look back years later and recall what I was feeling when Obama was elected. But it became hard to express my feelings without going over my past relationship with politics and two hours and a post as long as my arm later:

TAA DAA!
