I've had a really hard time understanding the Sudan conflict, and I don't think it's due to a lack of effort on my part. Media coverage is sporadic and often betrays biases and the issues themselves are muddled by too many groups with too many competing interests. Well, it's partly a fault of yours, maybe, but it's also a fault of the media system for being so incredibly difficult to navigate.

I understand the trust argument for not voting, and I guess that one frustrates me somewhat less. To me there's a difference between saying "hey, I like all the candidates; I like politics as usual; things will be cool so I don't need to vote!" and saying "shit, I can choose between bad and worse, see you later, bitches."

Global economy == someone's going to be selling weapons for conflict == (I believe) international conflict. There's a statement made when a arms deal is made.

There's absolutely a difference between the two explanations. I imagine that people who are benefiting from "politics as usual" pretty much made up the high-degree-of-trust argument in order to attempt to debunk the thought that there are huge systemic and institutional problems with American government and politics. Generalized opinion, but I think it's backed up pretty well in our context ( ... )
