Daniel had asked her to keep an eye on Dr. House for Jack so that he could have a break. Of course she'd said yes. But that left her with a dilemma. She'd seen how angry he was at her in the clinic and he was likely to be worse now ( Read more... )

Cuddy lifted her head when she heard the voice, and she recognized Trance immediately. One of House's medical students, at that. "Sure, of course." She cast a quick glance around - the clinic was quiet - and motioned her to come further inside. Once Trance had come in, she crossed the room and closed the door. There wouldn't be any interruptions now.

"So, Daniel, umm, Dr. Jackson - do you know him? - asked me earlier today if I'd keep an eye on Dr. House for a few hours. Or rather, in his words, however long he could keep Jack asleep and away from Dr. House. Apparently he's in need of a break."

She bit her lip softly. "I saw him when he came to the clinic and I thought you might have some experience with what he's going through. I know the symptoms he's likely to experience, but I'm wondering what I should expect from him, personally."

Now, the look on her face changed. Instead of curiosity, Cuddy regarded Trance with a seriousness in her eyes. She knew who Daniel was, knew him from Jack more than anything else, and there had to be a reason for all this - the simple one being that the strain was finally getting to Jack. She'd have to look in on him later.

"What you're asking me is what Dr. House was like when he detoxed before," she said. "So you know more about what you're walking into tonight. You're sharp, Trance. I can see why you're doing well in his lessons."

"I was the ship's doctor before I came here," she said simply. "But it's so far in the future, I decided that taking Dr. House's classes would be the best way for me catch up on the gaps in what I knew compared to how things work on the island."

She sighed briefly, remembering his threat to expel her. "I saw him yesterday, so I already know that he's a lot more irritable than normal. Normally Dr. House doesn't yell at me." Complain, bicker with, and tease, maybe, but never yell.
