I read about the most recent developments in the Naruto plot yesterday. I know at great detail about these things, despite neither watching nor reading nor liking it (I only care, at all, for, some parts of, the fandom). Go figure. I had no reaction, whatsoever. My brain just hadn't processed. Then I shot up in bed at 3 a.m. and wrote this. Then I nearly slept through class. The characters are pretty OOC, but that was because I had forgotten their personalities and didn't care, so I made ones up (they had lines to say and they said them, that was their sole purpose).
For reference, the phrase
jumping the shark.

“Where are we going?”
“Why are we going to the Country of Lightning?”
“Are we there yet?”
“Will you all be quiet?!” Sasuke yelled at his team, rubbing his temple.
They managed for about five minutes, before they reached the ocean.
“Juugo, get us a boat that you can drive. Karin, get some water-skis to go with it.”
Sasuke sat himself down on a grassy bluff to watch the play of sunlight on the water. Suigetsu looked around a few times to see if he’d been given instructions before going to stand at Sasuke’s shoulder.
Karin huffed, but dragged Juugo down the hill with her. Half an hour later Karin walked back as far as the bottom of the hill, then sat down on the beach to leisurely wash the bright red blood from her hands.
Sasuke walked down to join her. “Will you tell us what’s going on already?”
“The next portion of my plan is to acquire the Amulet of Bloody Tears.”
“Will it be hard?” Suigetsu whined.
“Idiot.” Karin whacked him over the head. “He killed one of the Sannin. Trivially. Of course it will be easy.”
Sasuke didn’t argue. “The Amulet is in the mouth of the Shark of Destiny.”
“So what’s the plan, already? Is it a good plan?”
“I’ve been working on this plan for two years. Now listen and I’ll tell it.”
* * *
Karin and Suigetsu bickered, as usual, on the back of the boat. Karin shoved him off the boat. He lashed and splash around. A fin skimmed the water towards him.
The boat swung around in a wide arc. Sasuke, on water-skis behind the boat swung around even wider. He reached Suigetsu just as a shark head broke the surface of the water.
Sasuke applied a chakra boost to his feet to propel himself into the air, Sharingan whirling. With one hand he snatched the necklace stuck between two rows of teeth and with the other he grabbed Suigetsu out of reach of the massive jaws. They landed back on the water just after, jumping the shark.
Juugo drove the boat around to the shore and the four ninjas jumped back on land. The fin swam after them. A shark head emerged from the water, but one attached to a very different body.
“It has arms and legs and…”
“‘It’ would be a ‘she’,” Karin corrected.
“Ano… are you Uchiha Sasuke?”
He nodded.
“Ano... I’m Hoshigaki Misame. Kisame-niisan said he and his roommate, Itachi-niisan, arranged a marriage, as clan heads, between me and his younger brother.”
“You mean…?”
She attached herself to his arm. “We’re betrothed!”
