wow, that was... awesome!

I hadn't really thought about how similar the situations were until I read this... which then got me to thinking... are the souls that Cas is using to power up as addicting as the demon blood was for Sam? Or at least, the power Cas gets from it... are we looking at a revamp of season four? I just have to know how this ends...

Your fic did give me a bit of hope, that maybe Dean really will help Cas in the end rather than just STOP him...

If the solution to Sam was locking him up in the panic room, what is the angelic equivalent for Cas??

Either way, that was really well written and kudos to you for seeing all those intricacies and similarities!!

The parallels between Sam and Cas have been sticking out to me for awhile, but the more I delved into this, the deeper the connections seemed. I really hope Sam can talk Dean into help Cas rather than outright stop him since he's been down a similar road. Dean was willing to forgive Sam, but Sam's always been the exception where Dean is concerned, so I hope Sam sees some of Cas' side before the end. That's where my hope lies, at least!

What a wonderful comment, thank you!

Really really nice play on how similar the situation is with the added benefit of seeing how much growth both Sam and Dean have aquired by going through this already. Yet it must also be wearying to have to do it again.

Sam and Dean's growth really takes my breath away the further I dig into stuff like this. Like, intellectually I know how much they've been through, but when exploring a situation like the present one, it comes back and bowls me over again. Makes me love the characters all the more as a result, too.

I love you SO much right now!! THIS is what I needed after last week's episode. I love the similarities between the two different conversations, but more importantly you brought back the one piece that was missing at the end of that episode for me... the reassurance that the boys are still willing to "drag Cas back kicking and screaming" no matter what he's done.

Also, I love Adele and the Set Fire to the Rain song especially, so bonus points there too!! :D

Yay, so glad you liked! There's been a lot of focus on Dean the last couple episodes (and understandably so since he and Cas share a "more profound bond"), so I've felt the need to get into Sam's headspace. The parallels between his and Cas' paths are really fascinating.

And I'm totally addicted to that Adele song right now, haha. It set the whole mood as I was writing and those lyrics ended up fitting surprisingly well. Been on repeat for the last couple of days <3

I really, really loved how you got into Sam's head in this story. The similarities between Sam and Cas's situation are a wonderful, and elegant tool the show is using to explore not only Cas's character in a sympathetic way, but also the growth both Dean and Sam have done. I love the little moment at the end between Dean and Sam, their determination, Sam's support when Dean is feeling at loss for what to do.

My canon hope is that when Sam calms down a bit he'll be more sympathetic to what Cas has been up to, so he can support Dean in that way. It hurts to see Cas doing these things since he watched how far Sam fell on the same path and how hard it was for him to struggle back up, but then again, there's still hope because the boys *are* back together now and what *can't* they do when they're on the same page?

Wow. What an amazing way to pull those two scenes together. Sam hearing, knowing. He knows what Cas is thinking and how wrong he is to think Dean's not up to stoping him. Dean's taken some REALLY big fish and Cas shouldn't let his arrogance take him down their path. I love Sam's attitude here, and his realization of what his betrayal meant for Dean.

Gorgeous story, thanks for sharing!

I'm so glad you liked it! I've been so struck by the similarities between s4!Sam and s6!Cas this season, but the more I delved into this piece, the deeper the similarities seemed--moreso than I had even considered before starting it. There was a lot going on the more I wrote, so I'm glad it worked out.
