take it, take it, take it!!!

There is a profound meaninglessness to this meme game. Filling out bubbles and blank spaces won't give you anything useful. So why do people copy and paste these things all over ( Read more... )

I think you said it right. It's out of human insecurity; even the desire to have things classified is out of insecurity (wanting to deal with known templates rather than undefined and unconfined entities).

Astrology always brings me back to the question of "free will."

Tell me, you being a fellow nerd, where are the good places (in NNJ) where one can sit down, enjoy a cup of hot whatever and study/read in peace?

Oh, and regarding those food-eating battle monkeys, some 5 years ago or so I came across this and was so eager to know the algorithm that calculates the battle rating... in vein.

The highest battle rating I was able to achieve was 9.8 .. I'd keep the monkey's name as a secret for now ;)

And I took the personality test. My score's in the 30's, what about yours? ;)

Nah. I think people do it because it is a waste of time that gets other people involved. It's a social waste of time. Everyone knows how to do it, everyone can participate.

So if i sit down at the computer and want to waste time, putting up a silly game that gets my friends involved might be a more appealing way then doing something serious, or creating a more "meaningful" game that people have to invest lots of time in (like writing a novel). Or just putting "This was my day" which is (sometimes) nice to read but usually gets no one involved in your blog.

i think it is a lot of those things,
waste of time and thus freeing break for brains
social
finding self, but also we like to see if things "work" or prove them wrong, like when people see psychics and stuff, half the fun is to see how full of shit they are, or to feel a cosmic connection
and also i think it's just stupid fun, (perhaps similar to the brain break above but with more positive connotations)
