I've been wondering, what did most people do for a living back home? I've heard a lot of strange tales about jobs I didn't even know existed.

Plenty of us have boring jobs, like being a student. [ Or demigod. Therapist for an entire city, maybe. Puppet master. Crusher of hopes. Peeping tom.

There's nothing wrong with having a boring job. A lot of people would prefer that. I mean, think about the long lunches you could have~

I can't say I do. [ He'd be lying, but hey, it's rare enough. Usually Josh doesn't even eat. ] That sounds rather irresponsible, after all. Who knows what you might miss out on?

Oh, I'd probably not miss out on much. My partner is better at doing paperwork than I am, anyway.

Oh, nothing in particular. Mostly just things for the entrance exams.

I investigate mysterious deaths. [That's a safe way of saying he's a shinigami. People tends to freak out when he says it, for some reason.]

People sometimes die before their time's up, or they stay for too long. If that happens in my district, I need to make sure they cross.

Yes! Sometimes people don't fulfill their destinies in time.

What happens then?

They live on borrowed time sometimes. Other times, they get lost.

Pardon my ignorance, but those mean what, exactly?

It means they might have fallen victim to a spell, or some supernatural being is tampering with their lives. Or, if they're really unlucky, they have some level of power themselves.
