impending trip + the hair dryer incident

Nerdiest thing I have done so far in preparation for Kris's and my New York trip: just extracted the bag I'll have with me on the bus to see if my clipboard and Freud Reader will fit in it so I can do work in transit.  I know this might sound like a lofty goal, but the bus ride is going to take forever... something to the tune of 20 hours each way

You should have just unplugged it rather then try turning it off!
I've heard stories of hairdryers doing similar things, only actually shooting flames! Good thing it wasn't pointed at your head!!
What time is it when your hairdryer starts shooting flames?
Time to get a new hairdryer! ;)

haha that happened to me once, well it wasn't too much of a flame, more like a small flame/spark combo...the worst part was I think that it was caused by a buildup of hair because it smelled like burnt plastic and burnt hair.
