How much of a dork does it make me that I started making sure that I wore my retainer every day after I realized it makes me sound like Murderface

yeah bro, you're just being paranoid. If you want to take a class, go for something like kick boxing, but if it's your personal safety you're after, you can take a women's defense class. I know they exist and it teaches you how to deal with all dem less than great situations. Everything from ball stomping to wiggling out of someone's grasp.
My darling daughter is a 2nd degree black belt in Tang Soo Do, which is a Korean martial art. She started young - age 4 1/2 - but loved it (mostly -studyng for black belt tests was sheer and uttter hell!). She's also 4th kyu in Kendo now, which is the Japanese sword art. She loves them both and learned enough from both - they are very different -though both are rigorous and both give you an absolute edge in the area of personal safety - but she also really got a lot out of the women's self-defense and street-fighting classes, enough that I feel comfortable with her going off to Japan on a scholarship or being a cop in NYC. Start wth quick self-defense and then try out dffernt types of martial arts for the long run. And be safe, kiddo!
I think I will. I'm probably going to take the self defense classes and then check out what sort of martial arts are being taught nearby, and see what I like. Thanks so much for the advice, it's really been helpful. :D

Wow. That’s really cool. Where’d you learn to use knives?
Guns are also cool, but I don’t think I could ever use one. I’m sort of a wuss that way.
OMG I had to rewrite this like 3 times because LJ kept logging me out before I could post. Fuckin eljay.
