"But it's really more Cats in the Cradle than Hell is for Children."

Sam doesn't get it.

Sam needs to expand his musical repertoire. ;) And geez, I never once connected the Chapin song with how Dean might view his Dad, but now I'll never be able to see it any other way.

My heart, it is in little-bitty pieces now. Thanks a lot. :)

Awesome fic, though!

He totally does! Though I do sort of enjoy my handcanon of Sammy listening to East Coast indie/college bands.

And lol, every time they play Cats in the Cradle on the radio, I can't even decide which of my favorite father/son relationships it's about :P

OK, had to look the song up...
And it fits well.

And I imagine the seúspicion of abuse happened more than just that one time

Yeah, it probably did. Except for when I'm on one of those 'John actually was abusive' kicks. Then people totally don't get to notice ever. :P

Took Sam a while to catch on there!

Ow. And Ow.

Well, you know, he has very important teenaging to do. Can't really focus on the mean, evil world around him.

Well damn. That was all kinds of painful. Your Sam voice feels bang on, right down to him covering up his hurt feelings over Dean`s teenage pulling away with outward anger. Lotta layers here, going to read it again.
Well done!

Aw, thank you. I just love them at that age. Because you just know they love each other, it's just the whole being 13 and 17 thing and they're not supposed to like each other very much.

"Sam does his best to make sure people know he hates his brother, thinks he's stupid and a moron and a million other things (because Dean stopped acting like he liked him ages ago and Sam doesn't know what he did to deserve that but he can sure as hell give as good as he gets), but yeah, knowing that Dean doesn't even really want friends anymore makes Sam sad and angry in a way that twists his stomach into a million knots."

That is a devastating insight into the boys.

This was hard to read because it was so effective...really, Susan and Dan were doing the right thing...just on the wrong kids...

No, they totally were. And, you know, it's not like what John is doing to them is healthy or good parenting...
