Title: Simple Choices
Rating: PG-13
Wordcount: 3100
Disclaimer: Not my boys. Kripke broke them way before I ever got to them.
Summary: The one time Sam's the one to screw up at school, Dean is still the one to take the fall.

Dean tries. He really tries, but it’s freaking hard to pretend that Dad just assuming that it was him, not even considering the possibility that he might not have screwed up for once, doesn’t hurt like hell. Then again, who in their right mind would assume anything different? )

oneshot, preseries, john, angst, dean, supernatural, hurting dean is like crack to me, sam, teen!chesters

Ouch. Poor Dean.

"But that’s Dean for you. All ‘yes, sir’, ‘no, sir’, ‘will you love me if I jump off a cliff for you, sir?'," That's perfect.

Great story, thanks for sharing!

Ouch. I feel so sorry for Dean, but this is just what he would do: take the fall for Sammy without a word. And as he is Dean, his dad's immediate assumption must hurt him even more than the drills and whatever beating he took.

I'm glad you felt this was in character for Dean.
Random sidenote: I love your cuddly kitty icon *squee*

Thank you for the icon love. :-)

Will you continue this story or is it a one-shot?

I think I'm gonna keep it as a oneshot. I kinda like it as it is.

Enjoyed this muchly. I always think of John as a hard-ass and this isn't too hard for me to imagine. The bruise bothered me a bit (eep) Ass kickings I get, bruising? Not so much. But its not really all that far from what I think John is capable of. Also, the ending here Having John Winchester think you’re lying to him to get out of trouble? Probably not a good idea. Helps me to understand a little better. John's anger is directly related to Dean's "lie". I wrote a fic last year with a similar thought process on a comment meme

Great minds think alike?

Dean's matter of factness is great. He'll need all the extra calories for PT.

What an awesome big brother.

gah, I love you story (if my comment there didn't make that clear ;) )

Hey, if the bruise bothers you, just pretend Dean's got this really sensitive, fair, freckled skin. Kinda like me. Somebody so much as grabs my arms and shakes me once and I'll be sporting two perfect hand-shaped bruises the next day. Doesn't help I'm really inot martial arts. The other week, one of my professors asked me if my boyfriend's abusing me xD

It's kind of funny, I'm a firm believer that John used corporal punishment on the boys. I think they got spanked. I think there was more than one cuff to the head. He is a pretty physical guy. More than once, we see both Sam and Dean take a step back (either physically or figuratively) when John Winchester throws his weight around. The boys are comfortable clipping each other upside the head or shoving one another into a wall. Both Sam and Dean have jacked each other up when they think the other has done something wrong. To me, that kind of behavior is learned. They learned it from their dad. But having said that, I am also a firm believer that John loved his boys with every fiber in his body - his gruffness was as much learned from his family as it was an attempt to keep the boys safe and make them strong. And even though Sam and Dean seem to be wary of John, they don't seem to fear him. I dunno. It's something I've thought about more than once (as you may have guessed from the length of this comment ( ... )
