Axel couldn't even guess at the depth of experience this 'Val' already possessed with regards to him; or, to be more precise, a parallel existence that matched him. No-one knew the difference, he imagined... which really ought to have annoyed him. The general inability to experience emotions put a bit of a stopper on that, though.

He couldn't imagine the times she'd had with this parallel Axel; the good, the bad, or the unspeakably painful. But, even if he could have, it wouldn't have mattered; it wasn't any problem of his that she was deceived. That she was toyed with. That she'd let herself be toyed with, at times, simply out of an unwillingness to get herself out of it ( ... )
