However, it appeared that this temporary form of shelter was not quite effective as her clothes are as drenched as the cardboard she was holding.
She looked up and saw Hikaru and Kaoru, wet and dripping. They were catching their breath.
"Ah. Hikaru. Kaoru," said Haruhi. Her voice was relatively calm, rather neutral, for someone who was in a seemingly abandoned street alone for a period of time.

Haruhi puffed her cheeks a little as she lowered her eyebrows. She’s never too pleased when Hikaru or Kaoru made comments about her fellow commoners.
“I didn’t have an umbrella on me. This was the closest thing I can find,” replied Haruhi.
She drained the water out of the cardboard and again, placed it over her head.
Hikaru watched her, half-amazed by the strange things she did, as usual. He turned to his brother, wearing a face to convey his concentrated awe.
"Commoner wisdom," the boy commented thickly, placing his hands on his hips.
"They're very resourceful, aren't they, Hikaru~?" Kaoru stared in awe at Haruhi's makeshift umbrella. Such genius! A cardboard box - truly, he and Hikaru knew nothing of the unknown commoner dimension. Haruhi must feel so at home in this place.
"Indeed! Haruhi, what are the other uses for a cardboard box~~?" ( ... )

“Well, I don’t know about the cosplaying, cotton clothes and candy, but I guess I could stay at your house for a day or so… until I find some place to live on my own.”
"How noble, Haruhi~!" Kaoru pretended to wipe away a fake tear. "Sacrificing yourself because you think you'd be a burden~! Fear not, Haruhi!"
"You could not be a burden in our home~~! In fact, we invited you, did we not~~? You can stay for~e~ver, Haruhi~~~!" Hikaru continued dramatically.
Haruhi gave a look of disbelief, “Forever is a little long isn’t it?”
"Until you leave, then. Or we do," Hikaru replied flatly. Not-forever was no fun.

"Haruhi, no need to be rude~" In a fit of childishness, Kaoru stuck out his tongue. "It's the amazing Hikaru and Kaoru Commoner Cosplay Love Shack! It wouldn't be cosplay if we had a big house~!"
"Besides~ I think three people can fit in our amazing Love Shack, don't you, Kaoru~?" Hikaru added, shrugging. "It can be the Outstanding Hikaru and Kaoru and Haruhi Commoner Cosplay Classmate Love Shack now!"
"We can share body heat if it gets too cold," Kaoru respnded slyly - deviously.
“No thanks,” Haruhi replied flatly. She didn’t think it was all too necessary to share body heat at the moment.
Hikaru pouted a lip, acting hurt. "Haruhi would rather freeze than be our warm friend, Kaoru~! How painful!"
“I doubt anyone would freeze in this weather. It’s just a little wet and humid,” replied Haruhi. She was almost ( ... )

A bit softer (he didn't meant to), Kaoru leaned close to Haruhi's ear, saying, "I hope you like it here~"
She scanned the room. It was far from appealing, but it was better than nothing. She didn’t mind too much. The wallpaper was peeling, like the skin of a rancid orange, stained with aged glue, yellowing the corners of the paper. Over to the left of the room laid a small stool, with pieces of different fabrics piled on top. It looked a little tacky.
Haruhi walked over to the stool, pointed and asked, “What’s this?”
"The couch!" Hikaru answered nonchalantly. It was very obviously the couch of a commoner, in his opininon. Not that either of the twins dared to touch it often.
"Isn't it obvious? You should know these things, Haruhi." Kaoru gestured towards the stool with grandeur.
“Eh? I thought it was just a tacky stool with fabrics on it,” replied Haruhi. In ( ... )

"Nothing but our Ouran uniforms," Hikaru responded nonchalantly, still holding the dress out. "And... other things that Haruhi can't wear."
Haruhi looked at her own uniform. It was still drenched, sticking to her skin.
"Hmmm... Is this really all you have?" She didn't want to wear the ridiculous dress, but she wasn't intending on sleeping in wet clothes.
Hikaru nodded, very seriously. He could offer his other clothes... But that would be crass.
Haruhi sighed and took the dress from Hikaru's hands. "I'll wear it... but just for one night."
"Hikaru~" Kaoru nudged his brother, grinning. "I wish we had a camera~~~"
Hikaru grinned back, leaning his arm on his brother's shoulder. "Indeed~ Haruhi will look so stunning in our ball gowns, nee~~~?"
Haruhi sighed and dragged the obnoxious dress into the washroom nearby ( ... )

"Kaoru and I are used to being so close together, Haruhi~ It's no big deal, right?" he said suggestively, smirking as he took up his position at his brother's side again.
While she didn't exactly doubt their closeness, she realized that beggars can't be choosers in this situation. It was better than sleeping in the rain, back at the alleyway. "Well... if its only for one night."
Haruhi looked at the floor. It looked incredibly filthy and damp. She'd rather share a bed for one night than sleep on the floor, preferably.
She yawned.
Stretching skywards, Hikaru stepped forward, gracefully pulling out a pair of cotton boxer-like shorts, in light blue, and a longer pair of light orange pants, which he tossed to Kaoru recklessly, from a cheap wicker basket on the floor.
"Bed time, then, I presume, Miss Haaaruhi~~?" he mused, smirking at her.
She gave a nod. She walked towards the bed and stopped, trying to crawl in with the ball gown. The bed' ( ... )
