There was nothing to do for it, really, and Naminé had come to that grim realization when Zack sent both Cloud and Angeal away. It made her panic, panic in a way that made her feel foolish later when she reflected upon her desperation and the unholy hell she'd put poor Kadaj through. (Yazoo, too, but she cared far less of his feelings on the matter.) She would owe him a thorough apology and a lot of hugs later. Cloud, not so much. While she understood his want to keep her safe, she was still furious that he would deem himself the judge of what she should and should not do ( ... )

Did he want to take a break? Well, yeah. Had for the longest time, actually. Whether or not he wanted to own up to it, the thing that sounded the best to him right then was simply curling up with Naminé and going to sleep. If it had been under any other circumstances, he would have given into the urge a few hours back and that would have been that ( ... )

It was an internal war that she found herself fighting; the half of her that saw how exhausted he was and wanted to tell him just to lie down, close his eyes and sleep, and the half of her that wanted to let him do this at his own pace.

If there were still hope that he could pull through this, too, then... telling him to sleep was no different than killing him. He would come back, but Naminé of all people cherished memories so gently; it broke her heart to see others lose them with no hopes of ever regaining them completely. Sure, they could relearn, memories could be shown to them, but the emotions that went with those memories were lost forever.

So, if Zack said he didn't want to sleep, then...

"We can keep playing." Her gaze drifted back to the TV, and she pressed a few buttons that had her character landing a rather painful looking punch at Zack's. "...Unless you're ready to admit that you can't beat me~"

Zack, honestly, had learned to not care so much about losing memories. It sucked, yeah, but death sucked, too; didn't mean either stopped him very well, did it? For whatever he forgot, there were so many people from his world to tell him, or maybe the Gods themselves would have, if he had asked, and no, he could no longer recall his emotions over certain things, but... didn't take a genius to figure out how he would have felt, did it? And what was important to him remained important; he created new bonds, maybe even stronger than the last. (Tseng was a good example of that, right? Tseng, whom he didn't remember at all, but apparently had been one of his good friends, someone who had done so much for him during times of trouble ( ... )
