He didn't really accept Mao's reasoning, but there wasn't much he could really do about it if Mao wanted to play an 'innocent game', so to speak. "Very well--I'm sorry." He wasn't sure if he really was or if he just wanted Mao to shut up. He listened to Mao continue babbling, somewhat flustered about the things he'd forgotten--Team 7, right? They kept saying that they were his students. Others also said that he'd talked about them being his students.

But he didn't remember things that way. Heh, some teacher he must've been. Not to mention how he'd slept with Sakura, and it wasn't just once, but twice in Purgatorium. Sure, one time was under the gods' influence during the love weekend (ironically, on his birthday); however, it was easy to say that the other time might've truly been his fault. A student-teacher relationship? He couldn't even feel guilty about it in that respect because he didn't remember being her teacher. Regardless... wasn't it disgusting? He should be ashamed of himself, shouldn't he

"Loves? Maybe~" Mao said thoughtlessly. He doubted it. Most people didn't really love anyone but themselves. They didn't care about anyone but themselves. Instead, they used others. Oh yes, he smirked a bit as he leaned in towards Kakashi, placing his hand under the silver haired man's chin. "I have doubt on that. She was using you~" he said, emphasizing Kakashi's doubts. This was the most fun thing to do. "Maybe she'll leave you and never come back. Maybe when she does come back she'll show up in the arms of another man~ Oh yes~ That would be so terrible wouldn't it~?"

"She does," Kakashi snarled at first. He tried -hard- to not listen to Mao, but hearing those words jabbed him as they reverberated in his mind.

His mind protested frantically. She wouldn't do that... She's NOT like that. She confessed, and when I said that I wasn't sure, she didn't want to give up--she said that she loves me, and she wasn't going to take it back...

All the same, however, Kakashi was quite aware that she was a very friendly girl. It was part of what scared him and was one of the things that wasn't in his control. On one hand, he disagreed with Mao--on the other, his mind was analyzing his situation, reminding him that she performed some exchanges with Sasori. Actually, said exchanges stemmed into their recent, somewhat unresolved disagreement

"Just like you~" Mao said. "See, the funny thing about people is there is no such thing as a good one~" All of them were bad in Mao's mind. Even himself, but he made himself good by reforming the bad. "You can't be good~ you'll always be a bad person. A traitor. You'll keep hurting her and she'll keep hurting you until she leaves you forever~ Sinners are here to be fixed, not to sin more." He chuckled.

"And you keep sinning, Scarecrow~"

"I--" Kakashi stopped himself, but the thought was already there, and he continued, "I didn't mean to--it wasn't like that." He didn't have that kind of attachment to anyone other than Rikku; she didn't have that kind of attachment to anyone other than him. Sure, they'd both done the deed with other people... but that was during the love weekend, wasn't it? What about afterward?

No, that wasn't important. She chose to love him--he chose to love her.

Sin or not... no one was perfect.

He swallowed the lump in his throat. "You're wrong." But that was just about all he could really manage out in his state.

He considered attacking the other man but decided against it as it probably would have been as useful as attacking Jenova--hardly worth the effort.
