Since the other had spoken, Watanuki felt that it was alright to speak. "I'd assume everyone here is a sinner," he said, "But yes."
After a short pause he decided to introduce himself. Just because he was in a run-down city didn't mean that he should forget his manners. "I'm Watanuki Kimihiro, by the way."
Watanuki wasn't too good at telling if someone he just met was lying, so he believed everything that Suzuki said. He could definitely see the man's pride showing, though, and he could see why he was brought here in the first place. But to be truthful Watanuki was a little jealous of all the attention Suzuki apparently received. Just once he'd like even one girl to show him adoration. "Well," he said, "I'm kind of glad that I'm not from that world. I don't like fighting that much, especially since I'm not too good at it."
"It's an all right place, I guess; not many people are smart, there, though. And as to fighting, you really need to know how in order to survive... Hardly posh. It, actually, with all of the poverty, dirt, unhappiness, etcetera, etcetera, general gloom--- it actually kind of reminds me of this place," he admitted thoughtfully. A small chuckle with a second thought, came: "Well, this place reminds me of it, rather." He shifted the bucket, careful not to splash water. "But I've spent a lot of time in Ningenkai. Not sure if that would be your world or not... I would assume so. You're Japanese, I'd assume?"
Watanuki quietly listened to Suzuki talk, not wanting to interrupt. Suzuki seemed like the kind of person who liked to talk, after all. When he asked that question Watanuki said, "Yeah, I am. And I'm not sure if there's a Ningenkai in my world. If there is then I've never been to it."
In that assumption, Watanuki was quite right; Suzuki was rather fond of the sound of his own voice. "Well, I would suppose you'd call it by a different name. Do you live in Tokyo? That would fall under Ningenkai; it's the human realm," he explained glibly. On a second thought, he was sincerely hoping the boy had not mistook him for another human; that would be disgusting. Quite an easy mistake, actually, but not at all in Suzuki's mind.
Meantime, he was trying to think of a way to buddy up to the possible lodge-giver--- that, of course, is completely under the assumption that Suzuki can do and get anything he wants. Thus far, the blonde was drawing blanks.
Watanuki was a little confused at first, but then he made the connection in his mind. At the very least, this guy knew that there were other places besides 'Earth' as humans knew it. Could Suzuki see spirits too? Watanuki figured that he would ask, and he said, "I know it's a personal question, but do you have powers too?"
"Well, I can see spirits," Watanuki said honestly, finding no reason not to trust Suzuki, "That's about all I can do, though. Can you do something along those lines?"
"O, sure!" he replied cheerfully. "That's not a power to me, though. You're human, though; that qualifies you as a psychic. Troublesome, isn't it~?" His tone was airy, looking at the boy faux-sympathetically. "As to me, I can masterfully control the wavelengths of my youki~ I'm a master of disguises! A man of one thousand faces and one thousand attacks~!" he boasted dramatically, practically sparkling with a bright, dreamy smile to his face. Suddenly sobre, he continued: "It is a natural ability for youkai-- that is, demons, you know--- like myself to see spirits, being so affiliated with the spirit realm."
Watanuki's attitude changed dramatically after Suzuki called himself a demon. He hadn't noticed this before, since the dead and the living all looked the same to him, but now he was on guard. He didn't have the best track record with demons, after all. They liked to eat his body parts. "A demon," he said, "You were trying to trick me, weren't you? Catch me off-guard and eat my soul! Well, I have news for you: I won't fall for a trick like that!"
Suzuki gave the other a very flat glare. "Hmph," he scoffed. "I have much more apetising things to eat than you~!" The atmosphere was much different now with Watanuki's unexpected reaction. "You humans all have such a grudge against demons, as if each one is the same as another! You should acknowledge, as someone so closely connected to the spirit realm, that not all demons eat humans!" he continued, a bit offended, defensive... "That would be the last thing I would be trying to trick you for. Psh."
Though Suzuki had a point, Watanuki wasn't about to admit that he was right. After all, for every decent spirit there were half a dozen who wanted to devour him. "Maybe in your world it's like that, but I can't go a single day without getting chased," he said, "If you want me to believe you, then you'll have to give me a reason to."
Suzuki looked at him. "It's your choice whether or not to believe me, but I've dealt with all of the demon realm for the past three hundred years, and the human for the past five, while dealing with Reikai on the side. I think I'd know a bit more than some psychic human." Condescending? A bit. "Besides..." he continued in a slightly devious voice. "I've been trained by the most esteemed reiki master." A bribe! If he could bribe Watanuki into letting him stay in his house with the offer of teaching him to manage his spirit energy into fighting... he'd have it made. Not that he knew much about reiki, but he knew youki, so it couldn't be too different. If that failed... O well. ♥
After a short pause he decided to introduce himself. Just because he was in a run-down city didn't mean that he should forget his manners. "I'm Watanuki Kimihiro, by the way."
