That really sucks. The sellers are nuts to think someone would come along and buy it now. I hope it all works out for the best eventually and something even better comes along!
The sellers are screwed, to put it lightly. Now that the septic system has been documented as failing, they are legally bound to disclose that on their initial contract paperwork, which probably would scare potential buyers away. Plus-they are moving as well! The husband's job moved him to Oneonta, and, last we heard, they were through with a structural inspection on a new house out there. If they were depending on proceeds from our sale to make a new down payment, they're doubly screwed.
For more positive spins, there is a chance you ultimately end up with will be even MORE awesome (aside from a nice septic system/sewer connection), but in validation, that is really disappointing. I hope you have a good summer despite the craziness!
I hope, looking back on all of this in 4-5 years, I'll be able to say 'Wow, I'm so glad we DIDN'T get that house!'. It will probably happen, but everything seems overwhelming right now.
Me too! :) Everything will be ok. I am letting myself be a Debbie Downer about it. Soon, though, I'll have a new rental to occupy myself with home-ifying and decorating!
Oh no! I'm so sorry. I cannot imagine moving once, let alone that many times in that short of a period of time with two small kids. I wish you LUCK moving forward.

Hopefully you'll find something even better, that won't break you in repairs!
