Wow. I'm so sorry. It doesn't seem fair that he's being punished because of your status. I hope y'all can figure out something that works well and is manageable. I know you don't need this kind of stress right now.
That's a giant bunch of BS. I say that since it's not necessary for him to get his master's while you're in Michigan (and he'd be able to apply for an extension if you do end up moving back to NY), he should decline the acceptance. I know it sucks that he worked really hard to get into Michigan, but I feel like it's not worth the 30k if he could do distance master's from MSU, or even a master's from Eastern if it's possible (and to be honest, as a person who's gone through the Education program at Michigan, Eastern's is better) and only pay in-state tuition. If he can get into Michigan, he can get into State or anywhere else.
Yea, I'm with applying for the extension. honestly, it may get a tad stressful with a new baby, and next year, with the baby a year older and the two of you far more adjusted to the baby, it might be easier. Not to get into a tiffy about how stupid UM is being, I'm finishing my masters from a private university (Hartt) and not even paying 15,000-closer to 13,000. So yea...UM is dumb....I feel for ya!
