Yes, another post, but I hadn't expected to finish this image already. I've been experimenting with digital paintings a lot lately. This is my second real result. Jensen Ackles...Dean Winchester...Alec/X5-494....whatever you want to call him.

Hmm. What is your process for creating these pics? Not to sound harsh, but they kind of look like you are painting over the photo/reference image.

One blank canvas and one reference image beside it. Some of the colors are copied right out of the reference image. Lots of fuzzy brushes, lots of smudging, a little bit of dodge and burn on the hair...And about a day or so worth of solid work.

I see. I think you should incorporate more hard-edged brushes and be a little more patient with the shading (he looks a bit blotchy). The image looks odd because the eyes, brows, and hair are very sharp, but the rest is not. This gives the appearance that the body is out of focus, and the eyes, brows, and hair have been "pasted on", if you know what I mean. The ears, nose, and lips need sharper detail, as do some of the lines and folds of the jacket.

You're doing well with using a reference. Keep practicing to refine your technique. : )

I see what you're talking about. I had been aiming for a more paint on canvas look. I'll give it a shot the other way.
