Taming the Animals

Somewhere on the mountains lives a Farmer and his beloved wife, the Tigress. Over the years, the Farmer and Tigress brought home pets from the fields; they loved the wild so much they raised them on their farm. They gave animals warmth and shelter, teaching them to live under their discipline.Their pets include a Dragonfly, Pig and a Rat. As strange as it may sound, the Farmer and Tigress are pleased to have everyone under their roof. Taming the animals however, has always been difficult.

The Dragonfly is one that the Farmer and Tigress would not let off so easily, but they supported her in growth, as they had done so for anyone in their home. The Dragonfly crawled the earth long before she knew about her own wings. It was up to her then, to decide what path to take when she was ready. As the Dragonfly started preparing for flight, the Tigress told her all the hard work would pay off in time. They needed her to see that dedication and diligence would help her along the way. As it turns out, they were right.

The Pig narrowly dodged slaughterhouses by squealing and bleating for dear life. For him to keep rolling around in mud says he is happy settling for dirt. Even though he has skills to sniff out treasures, it's apparent he would rather spend most of it on himself. The Pig has run his snout across fruitless fields, which the Farmer and Tigress have turned a blind eye to. Such habits have created a cycle that feeds his greed. While they let the Pig run circles in his pen, it seems he will never leave the comfort of the farm.

The Rat always had one simple goal in mind: escape the mazes to gain his freedom. In reality, the Rat was never completely caged, but given options to choose from. Never knowing which way to turn, he would always find some way to stick to his own routine of running the same mazes over and over again. When he saw an opportunity to exist outside the farm, he ran past their gates without hesitation. What he didn't know was how to grow comfortably from a point of no return.

The Farmer and Tigress carried their pack through some of the roughest patches on the face of the earth, but the animals had been reluctant to move onto greater plains. The Pig vigorously rolled in the mud and While the Rat pinned himself against the walls of the maze.

“It's okay, Rat. If you follow me, you too could live like a King.” The Pig said, bathing in filth.
“No Thank You, I'd rather chew my way out.”
“I thought you were smarter than that! You're making a big mistake!” he bleated.

The Rat hesitated to move further. He sat alone in the sun dried fields for a long time.Until one day, the Farmer asked the Dragonfly to help sort things out. She did not know how to free her brother from the pit, so she reached out to him:

“Would you rather sprout wings? I can show you a way to get around.”
“But what if I were to fall from the sky?”
“We would catch you on your way down.” she pointed to the Farmer and the Tigress.
“Well, I would rather do this by myself.”

The Rat had run in and out of mazes for such a long time, that he lost sight of the cheese he once desired. The "prize" had long since disappeared, but running had become his only means of survival. With nowhere left to turn, the Tigress and Farmer picked him from the corners to start over his maze at square one. With the Dragonfly and Pig pulling at the Rat's ears to listen. This is where they are now.

I had an idea and I'm going to leave it here. This was difficult to write and I'm not 100%, I think it's just annoying. I honestly want to throw this in the garbage, but I end up losing a lot of of the thought that went into this. Just like the Rat, I'm giving up and letting it stay where it is.
