I'm still reeling a bit at the blow of 'getting fired'. This was only enhanced today. My boss did say, as she was sacking me, I had excellent communication skills. But apparently, to work in a shop, you don't need that at all ( Read more... )

Give the poor Costa Coffee guy/girl a break. The problem with being a till jockey is that it doesn't require enough of your attention to do it. When I was working in a cinema I had soooooooo many thick moments simply because my brain switched off for the sake of my sanity. If anything disrupts the normal customer service would-you-like-fries-with-that routine, it can throw you so badly it's embarrassing. That counts double for questions about relatively rare allergens.

The other two, on the other hand, deserve your ire.

The thing was, this wasn't some part-time student whom I could have forgiven for not knowing about coeliac disease, but the manager--and as a 1-in-about-103 people have it disease, it's not that rare. They have a gluten-free brownie, so surely gluten registered as something they could improve upon.

Yes, when they finally looked in the book it was Cadbury's they were using and that's okay for me to eat. Drink. It wasn't as good as Starbucks, though XD
