Asking for Help

SOMEONE NEEDS TO HELP ME PLEASE, says the answering machine this morning.

I’m fifty-nine and I’ve worked every day of my life, and I have a hi-lo license and a CDL and a perfect record and the plant I worked at closed in January and I’ve been looking for a job every day since then and no-one is calling.

Eeek! I've become a spreader of The Fear! --Terribly sorry about that; I shall see that it doesn't happen again. After all, things turn out okay more often than it seems on days like today.

That is so sad. If worst comes to worst and she can't find a job, I wonder if a short-sale would be an option for her, rather than losing the house in its entirety. It breaks my heart to hear her story.

Man, what a difficult job you have. How do you do it?

it sounds corny, but "one phone call at a time". And for every call like this, there are two or three that I can actually give some helpful information to, so that's something. (For instance, I didnt' get ahold of *this* woman today, but I was the Awesome Lifesaver for a father of three and an elderly woman with a brain tumor, both of whom will at least be able to seek a decent outcome thanks to my advice. Things like that make this job totally worth it ( ... )
