Don’t Get Too Excited Now

May 16, 2008 11:08

Have you ever read about how women used to be diagnosed with "hysteria" for basically anything that made them act "overexcited"?  Or hey, to back up a little further, how excitable and/or mentally ill people were treated as "possessed by the devil"?  Or oo, here’s a good one, remember way back in the day when children who didn’t sit quietly and ( Read more... )

Will you write that to your congressperson? Can I print it out and send it to mine?

You certainly can, and I hadn't considered it, but shit, sure I will! No need for congresspeople to think I'm level-headed, heh.

Um... ADHD is real. It's characterized by a novel reaction to stimulants. Overdiagnosed? Hell yes. But it's not a fake disease.

And there is no link whatsoever between sugar intake and child behavior. Urban legend.

The real problem with tasers is that they're mischaracterized by marketing departments. They're not non-lethal. They're just less lethal. And a lot of cops are on permanent power-trips.

That said, violence on the part of the cops is sometimes necessary. "To protect and serve" does sometimes mean handing out a thumping. Replace "knife-weilding maniac" with "drunkard with a gun", for instance. Or perhaps "Some motherfucker so high on PCP he won't notice if you break his arms because he'll be trying to chew out your throat". You want to "surround those guys"? Really?

Also, you never see cops taking a punch because police departments try to keep footage of that off the air. It's a psyops thing.

I've never seen a real case of ADHD, but yeah, everybody and their brother seems to think they have it. Unfortunately MY brother spent eight years on hard drugs as a child because he wasn't in the right school thanks to this fakely-diagnosed disease (if that term makes you feel better). So I might agree that there is some incredibly rare, real condition that manifests the symptoms we call ADHD, but you'll never, ever get me to agree that giving psychotropic drugs to five-year-olds, unless they've been firmly diagnosed with something acute for which there is no other available treatment, is anything but horrific ( ... )

I've seen a few real cases. It's very weird: caffeine makes you sleepy instead of wired.

So, go eat 60 teaspoons of sugar and tell me how you feel for the rest of the day, and *then* factor in that their system isn't used to adrenal overload like yours probably is.

I'll assume you'll allow me to drink five Cokes instead? Because yeah, not much goes on there.

I said they *take* them a hell of a lot less than they give them out.Ahh, I see, I misread you. One thing to keep in mind is that more cops are killed on the job every year than people are killed by cops on the job. (Did that make sense?) Anyway: in a lot of places, cops are target practice for some very bad people ( ... )

Yup, I guess that's what it comes down to...I think that violence is rarely, if ever, a good solution to any problem -- being inherently negative, it's unlikely to ever produce a positive outcome. I also think that most cops, city or otherwise, are power-hungry assholes.

Might just have to stay a core disagreement, there. Thanks for weighing in though!

Tasering police anonymous June 28 2008, 02:30:17 UTC
Hi, Excited-Delirium.com here.

Your post mentioned tasering the police once every three months. They will rightly point out that they are often tasered during training "so they'll know what it's like". And it also 'proves' that tasers are safe - except that it doesn't really. Police trainees are tasered into the back, NEVER across the chest.

So, with all due respect to the police, if they're going to go with the assumption that tasers are safe, then they should turn around and take the hit across the chest themselves. Either that, or run around behind the subjects and taser them in the back only.

This little 'chest vs. back' stage trick (designed by Taser) is just one tiny example of the sort of propaganda employed by them in their assault on common sense.

Cool, thanks very much for that info! I knew that some police were doing something to the effect of "testing" tasers on themselves, but it isn't surprising that they've found a way to -- forgive the pun -- cop out of anything that would actually cause some empathy.

Love your site. Thanks again!
