Wind Chill.

December 23.
2:30 PM.

"Fan-bloody-tastic!" Emily said as she hauled her Louis-Vuiton suitcase behind her as they wandered out of the small airport which there plane had to do an emergency landing at. "Miranda is going to have an absolute fit when she find's out we're stranded in god knows where!" Emily continued.

Andy sighed and glanced at Emily who was looking very pale and at this moment wished she had some cheese for the poor girl.

Emily stopped outside the entrance and looked around at her surroundings. "Great, just great. It's cold, probably going to snow, and we've got no way to get to Delaware!" Emily said as she glared at Andy.

"What? This isn't my fault!" Andy said and Emily sighed and looked away from her crush. "Look, I'm going to see if I can get us a rental car so we can drive the rest of the way to Delaware." Andy said as she got her cell phone out from her bag and opened up the internet and searched for a rental car.

When Andy located the town they were in and found a hire car she rang them up and they informed her that someone would bring one to them shortly.

Andy turned her head and saw that Emily had moved back into the airport and was sitting and watching people move by. She walked in to the warmth of the airport and sat down next to the other woman who she had grown fond of over the past year. "I've managed to get us a hire car and they'll bring it to us shortly." Andy said into the silence.

"Great." Emily muttered her reply. "Bloody brilliant, how am I supposed to survive 6 hours in a car with her without letting her know how I feel about her!" Emily thought to herself and began to panic. She had no idea if Andy felt the same way towards her and didn't want the other woman knowing about her feelings until she knew if the feeling was mutual.

Andy noticed Emily's nervous state. "Are you alright?" Andy asked softly.

"Fine." The British woman replied.

Andy nodded her head and decided to not say anything else. She hoped this rental car would arrive soon.

~*~

Half an hour later and the car still hadn't arrived.

Andy sighed and looked around the small and isolated airport. "I'm going to go find some food for us for when we're on the road." Andy said.

Emily didn't reply just nodded her head.

Andy grabbed her purse and stood from the seat she had been sitting in and began walking around the airport until she found a mini super market.

She grabbed one of the baskets and began finding food that she knew Emily liked. A smirk appeared on her face. All the eaves dropping she did in the Office was now paying off and deemed useful.

Once she had all the food she wanted in the basket she walked over to the registers and paid.

Andy grabbed the brown paper bag the woman put the food in and began walking back to where she had left Emily but stopped when her phone began ringing.

She pulled the device out from her pocket and frowned when she saw it was an "Unknown Number." but she answered it anyway.

"Hello, Andy Sachs." Andy said.

The rough sounding voice on the other end of the line informed her that he had the car waiting for her around the back of the airport.

She nodded and said her thanks to the man and went to meet him at the car outside.

~*~

Emily sighed and looked over to where Andy had disappeared.

She had no idea what was taking Andy so long and just as she was about to get up and go look for Andy her phone vibrated in her lap.

She picked up her phone and opened the message which she saw was from Andy and she allowed a small smile on her face.

"Cars around the back of Airport. Come meet me. x" Her smile grew bigger when she noticed the kiss on the end of the message.

Emily had noticed over the past few weeks that whenever Andy sent her a message she'd leave a smiley face or an "X" at the end of her messages and this gave Emily hope that maybe, just maybe, the feelings were mutual between them.

She smiled once more as she grabbed hold of her suit case and began pulling it behind her as she walked out the front of the airport and her smile turned into a frown as a whip of cold air slammed into her face as she walked outside.

It felt like it was getting colder outside and she hugged her coat tighter around her as she walked around the back of the small airport.

~*~

Andy had given the man the cash who was waiting by the rental car for her and now she found herself sitting in the rental car.

She looked around inside the untidy car and she knew that Emily would disapprove but it was the only car rental place in this god awful town. She sighed and laid her head on the window and closed her eyes as she waited for Emily to find her.

~*~

3:12 PM.

Emily made her way towards the back of the airport and saw the brown car ahead of her and she continued moving towards it.

"Surely this can't be the car she got." Emily thought to herself as she came to a stop in front of the horrible looking vehicle.

She allowed a smile form on her face when she saw that Andy's head was resting against the window of the car and her eye's were closed.

Emily looked at Andy's beautiful face and felt her heart beat a little faster and her hands began to sweat but she shook the feelings away and moved her hand forward and knocked on the window.

Andy looked up and saw Emily looking at her.

Andy opened up the door. "Hey." She said as she stumbled out and stood in front of Emily.

Emily stared at her. "Do you think they could have parked the car any further from the entrance?" Emily asked as a shiver ran through her. " And do you expect me to get in this car, with you, to Delaware?" Emily asked as she once again looked at the horrible vehicle.

Andy heard the annoyance in Emily's voice and sighed. "Look, It's the only rental car they had in this town. What did you expect me to do?" Andy replied.

"Right." Emily replied and shook her head and she walked to the back of the car to put her suitcase in the trunk.

"I thought we could get an early start and get ahead of all the snow." Andy said to Emily.

"What time is it?" Emily asked as she realised she didn't know.

"It's a quarter after 3." Andy replied.

"Shit, I didn't realise it was that late." Emily replied as she opened the trunk and sighed loudly when she saw all the junk in the back of the car.

Emily grabbed a brown paper bag she saw and took it out of the trunk and put it on the ground so there was room for her suitcase before she began lifting her bag into the trunk.

"Here, let me help." Andy said as she helped Emily get her suitcase into the trunk and couldn't help but laugh as she saw all the junk in the back.

"I can do it so why don't you start the engine up so we can get going." Emily replied.

"Alright." Andy replied and gave Emily one last look before she got into the driver's side of the car and shut the door.

Emily sighed as she moved a soccer ball to the other side of the trunk to make room for her suitcase. "Great." She muttered.

Once her suitcase was in the back she shut the trunk and moved to the passenger side of the car.

Emily grabbed hold of the door handle and pulled on it to open the door but the door wouldn't open.

"Hang on..." Andy said as she leaned over to open the door for Emily from inside the car seeing as the guy told her that the door liked to stick. "It sticks sometimes." Andy explained as she opened the door for Emily.

The door opened and hit Emily in the arm and she sighed before sitting inside the car.

She slammed the door close before looking around the small, dirty space.

"God." Emily muttered and noticed that her window was down a little and began pressing the button for it to go up but it wouldn't. "What's wrong with this thing?" Emily asked now hitting the button quite firmly.

"Ah, that's as far up as it will go, apparently." Andy replied.

Emily turned and glared at her but Andy ignored her future love and turned the key in the ignition and began driving the car out of the airport and back onto the high way.

~*~

They had been driving for about half an hour now and Emily figured that she'd call Serena and see how Runway was going.

"Oh, it's fine." Emily said into her phone and laughed at something Serena said. "Well, tell me about it. I'm supposed to be sitting in a beach in Carbo. No, it's only been about an hour." Emily said as she looked at the road ahead. "Are you kidding? I'm bored to tears!" Emily said.

Andy turned and glared at Emily. "We're still on the high way for another five hours." Emily said into her phone as she looked around the small area of the car again. "How should I know, all the high ways look exactly alike!" Emily replied to Serena's question as to which high way they were on.

Andy sighed and stared at Emily again. Emily turned to look at her.

"Oh, somebody is upset." Emily said into her phone as she saw Andy's annoyed expression.

"Who?" Serena asked.

Emily snorted. "Who do you think? Andrea! My ride!" She replied.

"Well, I should let you go then." Serena replied.

"Okay, whatever, bye." Emily said and took her phone away from her ear and disconnected the call and smiled as she opened up the camera on her phone and turned to Andy.

Andy turned and looked at Emily who was now holding her phone in front of her in her direction.

Emily snapped the picture of Andy.

"God, would you get a look at that face!" Emily said as she looked at the picture, Andy didn't look exactly happy in it but Emily still thought her future love looked gorgeous.

Andy turned and gave her a glare before turning her eyes back onto the road ahead of them and concentrated on driving.

"Moody." Emily muttered.

Andy turned and looked at Emily again.

"What?" Emily asked and rolled her eyes.

"If I have to drive you have to talk to me!" Andy replied.

"What? I'm your in-flight entertainer?" Emily asked and laughed.

"That's how this road trip thing works." Andy replied.

"Oh really?" Emily asked.

"Yes, really. Okay, the division of labour, we split everything fifty-fifty." Andy replied.

"Well, I've got news for you." Emily began. "I don't get much more entertaining then when I'm on the phone." Emily said and smirked at Andy.

Andy ran her left hand through her hair and they remained quiet for a few moments.

Emily rolled her eyes. "So, you're from Ohio, right?" Emily asked.

Andy sighed. "Yeah, I am." She replied.

"Where did you go to School?" Emily asked.

"Uhm, St. Ursula Academy." Andy replied.

Emily scrunched up her face. "St. Ursula??" She asked but more muttered to herself. "I've never heard of that?" Emily asked.

"You're educated on every school in the Country?" Andy asked.

"Pretty much, yeah." Emily replied.

"Yeah, well even the Catholic ones? Because that's where I went to School. St. Ursula for Catholic girls." Andy replied, annoyed.

Emily couldn't help but laugh at how worked up Andy had gotten.

She rolled her eyes at Andy's sigh.

Emily watched the car in front of them as they continued up the high way.

Andy began talking about Journalism and her studies at North Western.

"Guess that concludes our entertainment portion for this day's flight." Emily said when Andy finished her rant and leaned forward and turned on the radio and turned to smirk at Andy before a Christmas song filled the speakers of the car and she sat back listening to the music with a small smile on her face.

~*~

5:15 PM.

Andy glanced over at Emily who was painting her nails with blue nail polish and couldn't help but think what gorgeous feet Emily had.

She shook her head and turned her eyes back onto the road and listened to jingle bells which was currently playing on the radio.

"The next gas station you see, do me a favour and pull over, I gotta pee." Emily said.

"Yeah, okay, I'll keep my eyes peeled." Andy replied and scratched her head.

Emily looked at Andy and Andy turned when she felt Emily's eyes on her.

"What?" Andy asked confused.

"Oh, it's that phrase, keeping your eyes peeled." she laughed. "It's just kinda creepy." She said absentmindly as she painted her big toe.

"Yeah, it is sorta." Andy replied.

"Yeah.." Emily replied and noticed Andy was watching her paint her nails and her eyes widened. "Maybe, just maybe, the feeling is mutual between us?" Emily thought and smirked to herself.

Andy shifted in her seat and cleared her throat, she knew Emily had seen her watching her. "Yeah. Speaking of uhm peeling eye balls, did you know that's how they do that ah corrective eye surgery?" Andy asked.

"Yeah, they use a laser." Emily replied.

"Yeah, they do, but, there's also peeling involved. I saw it on the discovery health channel. You know, if more people knew about the whole peeling part they might think twice before going under the knife." Andy replied.

Emily grabbed the nail polish and put the lid back onto it. "It's a laser, they use a laser." Emily replied and put the bottle of nail polish in her hand bag. "I'm having corrective eye surgery over the Christmas Holidays." Emily said and looked at Andy.

"Why?" Andy asked. She had heard Emily talking about it in the office quietly with Serena and she was confused as to why Emily would want to get it done.

"Because I hate wearing my glasses, okay." Emily replied.

"But they look so good on you." Andy replied.

Emily stared at her for a moment. "How would you know? I never wear them outside of my bedroom." Emily replied.

Emily had no idea that Andy had seen her in her glasses before when she was at her apartment with Serena and she had been standing in the doorway of Emily's room and saw Emily wearing her glasses. "God, she looked so beautiful that night with the light of the lamp shining over her and her glasses on." Andy thought to herself and smiled.

"Hey, here’s your gas station." Andy said and cleared her throat as she pointed at the "Penn Way" petrol station trying to change the subject as she didn't want Emily to think she was some kind of stalker or something.

Emily still wondered how Andy knew what she looked like in her glasses but let it slide and looked out of the front window and saw the "Penn Way." Gas station that Andy was currently pulling into.

Andy stopped the engine and got out of the car and walked over to one of the gas pipes and began filling the car with gas.

She looked inside the car at Emily who was still sitting inside it.

Andy walked to Emily's side of the car and knocked on the window.

"What?" Emily asked as she turned to look at Andy.

"I thought you had to pee?" Andy asked.

"Yeah, but.." Emily sighed. "I didn't expect us to find a bathroom so soon, my nails aren’t dry." Emily replied pointing to her toes.

"Oh, yeah, right." Andy replied and nodded her head and looked up at the entrance of the gas station and saw that it wasn't that far to get to the door.

"Well.." Andy said and opened Emily's door.

"It's fine, I'll just put my shoes on..." Emily replied.

"If you want I could carry you?" Andy asked.

Emily laughed. "You're not carrying me." She replied.

"No, no.. I want to help. Trust me, I'm good at this." Andy replied before leaning her back into the car for a piggy back ride for Emily.

Emily sighed but wrapped her legs around Andy's waist and held on tight anyway.

"Just hold on tight." Andy said before she stood up.

"Wait! Oh my god." Emily said as she held on tighter as Andy jumped up and down to get Emily in a better position.

"Now, shut the door." Andy said.

Emily did as she was told.

"This is good, right? This is good." Andy said and smiled as she felt Emily hold onto her tighter as she made her way to the entrance of the gas station.

"Grab the door." Andy said when they reached the door.

Emily reached out her hand and pushed the door open and Andy walked inside.

"Thanks, that's fine. Put me down." Emily said softly.

"Huh?" Andy asked.

"You can put me down now!" Emily said again.

"Oh." Andy replied and let go of Emily and Emily slid off of Andy's back and her feet landed on the cold tile of the floor.

Emily looked at the guy standing behind the counter. "Sir, is there a bathroom?" Emily asked.

He didn't seem to hear and she sighed. "Is there a bathroom?" she asked more loudly.

He looked up at her and nodded. "Yeah, it's right through there." He pointed his finger behind Emily.

Emily nodded her head and looked at Andy before she turned around and walked up the stairs into a little restaurant area of the Penn Way gas station thankful that it was carpet and not tile.

She looked around the room and spotted the restroom and made her way towards it.

A guy who was sitting at the table watched her go down the hall to the bathroom.

Once at the door for the Restroom, Emily pushed it open and was about to walk in but stopped when she saw how dirty and disgusting the tiled floor was.

She slid her hand bag off her arm and placed it on the table in front of her before she put her shoes on and walked into the bathroom.

She pushed open the toilet cubical door with her right elbow.

~*~

Meanwhile, Andy got a couple of bottle's of water for the road and talked to the guy at the counter and got some information from him that she wanted to know about.

Emily pulled up her D&G pants and turned around and looked at the toilet before lifting up her leg and flushed the toilet with her foot so she didn't have to touch it.

The toilet flushed and she opened up the door and went to was her hands.

Once she washed her hands she moved over to the dryer to dry her hands. She pressed the button but it didn't start.

She sighed. "Great." She said and wiped her hands on the sides of her pants .

She walked back over in front of the mirror and grabbed her hand bag and pulled out her glasses and put them on her face and looked at herself in the mirror.

Emily rolled her eyes, laughed, and took off her glasses and put them back in her bag.

She put the strap of her hand bag over her shoulder and walked over to the door and grabbed hold of the door handle and pulled on it.

The door didn't open.

She turned the knob and pulled it again and it still didn't open.

She continued turning the knob and pulling on it but it wouldn't budge.

Fear over took and her heart began pounding. "Come on!" She whispered and pulled on the door knob. "You piece of shit, come on, open!" Emily said a lot louder.

"Hey! I'm, I’m locked in here!" Emily called out. "Hey!" She started banging on the door.

She looked up at the vent and heard the radio wafting through it. She put her hand bag back on the counter and stood up on the bin and looked into the dark vent. "Hey! Can, can anybody here me? I'm locked in! Come on, come on!!" she jumped off the bin and went over to the door and bashed on it again a couple of times. "How can no one hear me?" She thought to herself. "Hey, I'm locked in! How can you not hear me?" Emily yelled and felt tears brimming her eyes. "Christ. Come on." Emily said and tried the door knob again.

She turned it and pulled the knob and the knob came off the door. "Oh my god!" Emily said when she looked down and stared at the knob of the door which she was now holding and she tried with shaking hands to put the knob back onto the door.

When it slid back on she turned the knob and pulled the door open and it opened up.

Emily looked out of the room and let out a shaky breath.

She grabbed her hand bag and walked out of the restroom.

She walked down the hall and past a guy sitting at a table.

When she felt his eyes on her she stopped walking and turned and looked over her shoulder and he turned away.

Emily looked down to the front of the gas station and her heart slowed down when she saw Andy speaking with the guy at the front counter.

Emily started walking towards Andy.

"Hey!" Emily said and Andy didn't turn around. "Hey!" Emily said again and this time Andy heard her and turned around just as Emily stopped walking in front of her. "Didn't you just hear me banging in there?" Emily asked Andy and the guy at the counter as she pointed towards the area the restroom was.

Andy laughed. "When?" She asked.

"Oh, is that funny to you? Me locked in, you think that's funny?" Emily asked.

Andy's eyes widened. "What are you talking about? What do you mean locked in. Where?" Andy asked.

"You're telling me you didn't just hear me banging on the door? I could hear you!" Emily replied her voice going high.

"Listen, I don't know what you're talking about." Andy replied looking into Emily's eyes.

Emily shook her head and looked at the guy behind the counter who was now leaning against the bench.

"Forget it. It doesn't even matter. Let's just get on the road." Emily replied turning to look at Andy before opening the door to the gas station to walk out.

Andy nodded her head and grabbed the four bottles of water she bought.

"Remember the high way's the best to go." The guy behind the counter said to Andy.

Emily stopped at that. "Don't worry about it, I've got it all covered, but thanks." Andy replied juggling the bottles of water in her hands.

"Are we lost or something?" Emily asked staring at Andy.

Andy coughed. "Nope, we aren’t lost." she replied.

Emily looked at Andy a couple more seconds before she turned around and walked out of the Petrol station and towards the car.

Andy followed her quickly.

Emily stopped outside and turned to Andy.

Andy looked at Emily who was holding two 20 dollar notes in her hand. "What's that for?" Andy asked.

"It's my half of the gas." Emily replied.

Andy shook her head. "No, it's fine, don't worry about it." Andy replied and walked past her and towards the car.

"Come on, take it!" Emily replied as she followed Andy.

"No." Andy replied and opened the driver’s side door.

"Why not? Isn't this how road trips work? Division of labour. We split everything fifty-fifty. Come on, take the money!" Emily replied looking at Andy over the roof of the car.

Andy sighed. "I don't take money from friends." Andy replied looking Emily directly in the eyes before getting inside the car.

Emily watched as Andy got inside the car open mouthed before she too opened the car door but it wouldn't open.

"Bloody hell!" Emily said as the door wouldn't open.

Andy leaned over and opened it for her.

"Thanks." Emily muttered and got inside the car out from the cold.

Andy started up the car and when Emily shut her door and put her seat belt on she drove out of the gas station and back onto the high way.

~*~

Andy saw the sign that she had been waiting to see and it said for her to turn a few K's up the road.

She looked over at Emily who was looking out of her window and hoped that she would like what she was about to do.

When Andy turned a corner she saw the sign she had been waiting to see and it said to turn right. She turned the car to the right and began driving down the snowy road. Scenic Tour 606.

"What the hell is this?" Emily asked when she sat up straighter in her seat and looked at Andy.

"It's a scenic detour." Andy replied.

"Get back on the high way." Emily replied.

"Look, would you just.." Andy replied but Emily cut her off. "I mean it, get back on the high way! You don't know where you're going!" Emily said firmly.

"Calm down! Would you just chill?" Andy asked turning to look at Emily who was looking straight back at her.

"No, I won't chill! Get back on the high way! This is not going to happen." Emily replied.

"Relax! Okay?! It's a short cut. We'll be back on the high way in no time." Andy replied before turning her eyes back onto the snow filled road.

Emily continued to look at Andy for a few more seconds before she too turned her eyes to look at her surroundings.

A few minutes later the silence began to get to Andy so she reached out to turn the radio on but all she heard coming from the speakers was static.

"No radio station." She sighed.

"You're not going to get a signal out here, we're in a Valley." Emily replied.

Andy turned and raised an eye brow at Emily.

"FM Radio waves travel in a straight line. Try AM." Emily said.

"Huh.. Where were you when I was skipping freshman physics?" Andy asked as she tuned the radio to AM and the radio started and the song was Jingle bells.

Andy sighed and looked at Emily who was once again looking out her window.

"So, does your family do the whole traditional family Christmas?" Andy asked.

"Yeah. You?" Emily asked.

"No, ah, my Grandparents are Dutch." Andy started and Emily turned to look at her. "So... I was raised on Salted Liquorice and Sinterklaas." Andy continued and let out a laugh.

"How's that different from regular Santa Claus?" Emily asked, curious now.

"Well, instead of the North Pole he lives in Spain and ah, instead of Elves he's got this enforcer named Black Pete. So, he's basically like your Santa Claus but scarier." Andy replied and laughed at the look on Emily's face.

"That's charming." Emily replied.

"So, come on! What's your Christmas like?" Andy asked.

"Christmas is like me running back and fourth between Mum and Dad who split in my Freshman Year. So, two turkey dinners, two tree's, two sets of presents to return for store credit." Emily sighed. "I can normally deal but this year Mum decided to rent a Condo at the beach." Emily replied.

Andy nodded her head, she didn't know her parents were divorced. "Well, the beach can be nice in the winter." Andy replied.

After that they remained silent and the only thing they heard was the radio's Christmas songs.

They were listening to Jingle bells when the radio randomly stopped and Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree began to play through the speakers and up ahead of them Emily saw car head lights signalling a car coming towards them.

"You better pull over to let this person past." Emily said.

Andy looked around and saw that there was nowhere where she would be able to pull the car over.

"There's nowhere to pull over." Andy replied.

The car in front of them wasn't making any move to stop and was coming closer to them.

"Just pull over and let the asshole past!" Emily said a lot louder now.

"Where do you suggest that I pull over?" Andy asked and watched as the car came closer to them.

"Slow down he's not stopping!" Emily yelled frantically.

"Hold on!" Andy said as she turned the steering wheel and the car swerved to the right and swirled around in circles a couple of times before the car crashed into a huge hard rock which was covered in snow.

The song changed back to Jingle bells as Andy's head slammed against the window and Emily's head fell forward as they were knocked out.
