Since someone had rejected her idea of lounging by the pool, Caroline had taken up residence on a towel at the beach, soaking up absolutely no sun, but enjoying the heat of it at the very least.

Caroline's refusal to get wet had meant that Jake had charged into the water alone, glad to cool off a little. If you asked him, wolves were not made for this kind of humidity. But as nice as splashing around in the water and cooling off was, it was getting kind of boring too.

So Jake trudged up the beach so he could go be annoying and stand in Caroline's sun so she'd notice he was there and in need of attention.

When Caroline finally decided to look up from what she was doing with her phone, she smiled and reached to fling a towel his way, assuming he was done and in need of drying off. "How was the water?"

"Better than the sand," he tossed the towel back down. Honestly, he wasn't going to be wet for long considering the sun and his own body heat. He stepped onto her towel and nudged her leg with his foot. "You should come join me."

She laughed at his drippy leg, pulling her own away as she tilted her head way back to look up at him through her sunglasses. "You're looking really tanned." And yes, she was jealous of that. "You sure you want to spend more time in the water?"
