Jake looked up from stirring the sauce when he heard the sound of the salt shaker. He could have sworn she'd already added some.

"Yeah, but I'm hungry," he replied, leaning over to try and steal the salt from her.

"Yes," he wrinkled his nose at her. "I expect a phone call when it grows leaves."

"I'll be back in a couple years then. Promise you'll miss me?" Caroline asked, pushing up on her toes like she was going to say goodbye for a while.

"Uh huh. At least I'll have pasta while you're gone," he teased, leaning down to kiss her.

She chuckled, giving his cheek a little pat as she pulled back. "I could probably run to town and wait around for Chinese by then."

"Noooooo, you need to keep an eye on your apple tree," Jake objected. "Those are the rules."

"Oh come on," she complained. "We're in electronics hell here. There is literally nothing to do but watch you cook or go read one of the asinine Gilbert journals."

"Didn't you want to see me labour?" he asked, moving back to his sauce to make sure it was still alright.

"Uh, does the kitchen really count as labor?" Caroline wondered, following him and leaning against his arm. "Again, I was thinking more like, axes and flannel and big hunks of tree."

"Hey, you've got to start out small," he chuckled, bumping his shoulder against hers "Don't be too greedy."

"Sure sure," she teased. "Though I have learned one thing from this." Oh he should be scared of where she was going with such a comment. "I have learned that you're going to make someone one heck of a wife one day."

There was a gasp of outrage at that statement and Jake did put his spoon down now before he poked her. "Take that back."

"Why should I?" Caroline giggled, amused by his reaction. "It's completely true!"

"Is not," he frowned and poked her stomach. "You're just jealous of my domestic skills. You should be happy you managed to make such a catch."

"Oh yes," she laughed, squirming away from his poking. "I'm thrilled I snagged the best werewolf wife in town."

Jake made a face and started instantly tickling her in revenge. "Is that why you're wearing pants so much lately?"
