So according to the first page in Hofstadter, the principles of America are based off Calvin and Hobbs. (Calvin religion and Hobbes philosophy, but nevertheless!) Is that not the coolest thing you've ever heard?

And doesn't it just explain everything?

Pretty much just that Humans are intresictly evil and "atoms of self-interest".

He thinks that the constitution was based off of this and I like to agree.

Calvinist religion was I believe a form of Protestantism and Hobbes philosophy basically said that the entire world is constantly at war with each other in some way or another.

I read this and automatically thought, "American politics is based off a cartoon strip that won't exist for another 200 years? Brilliant!!"
