Attack of the zombie debt

As most of you know I'm somewhat of a geek where credit issues are concerned. This article was in the latest issue of one of the professional publications I read. It was rather eye opening for me so I figured I'd share it with you to maybe save you some money and headaches.

I had an incident like that once. AT&T Cable sicced a credit agency on me for a cable box I'd never had. Dealing with the agency was fruitless, and I finally called AT&T, which had the debt under a different name, apparently from someone who'd rented the house years before. Once I explained to AT&T that I wasn't Nick whoever-it-was, the annoyance stopped. But the credit agency was sure obnoxious. They had determined who lived in the house now and then lied to me, saying it was my debt.

"Unlike the movies, however, you won't need a sledgehammer, Molotov cocktail or even a chainsaw." but but... I _WANT_ to get to use the Molotovs

I would have happily used any or all of those on Cingular and Collection Company of America for what they just did to my credit. ;p

I got a call about 2 weeks ago for some camera my ex-wife bought almost 20 years ago, and unbeknownst to me, she used my name and SS number on the account.

The collection agent was just so dogdy, I know the law and how it pertains to active collections, he told me I could settle the debt of TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS right now for pennies on the dollar, they'd take a check for a measly 450 bucks and call it even.

When I was done laughing I told him these magic words: "This debt isn't active, nor collectable, do not call my house again, you have no legal right to."

Still amused me for the rest of the week, just the guy's who attitude, like he was doing me some giant favor.
