Нынешний директор ЦРУ Майк Помпео до этого представлял в Конгрессе глубоко республиканский южный Канзас. В его прежнем округе Трамп набрал меньше голосов, чем Ромни в 2012, но победил с большим перевесом (62/36 в 2012, 60/33 в 2016). Времена, однако, меняются. В выборах на замену Помпео республиканский кандидат Рон Эстес победил с трудом и со сравнительно небольшим перевесом - в 2017 чаша весов сдвинулась на 23% влево.



В своём недавнем выступлении Помпео несколько раз упоминал Канзас. Нашумела часть выступления, в которой он дал вполне однозначную характеристику Викиликс:

It is time to call out WikiLeaks for what it really is - a non-state hostile intelligence service often abetted by state actors like Russia. In January of this year, our Intelligence Community determined that Russian military intelligence-the GRU-had used WikiLeaks to release data of US victims that the GRU had obtained through cyber operations against the Democratic National Committee. And the report also found that Russia’s primary propaganda outlet, RT, has actively collaborated with WikiLeaks.

“I love WikiLeaks,” he told listeners during a campaign rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., prompting prolonged “Lock her up!” chants from his audience. “It’s amazing how nothing is secret today when you talk about the Internet.” Trump then began reading from sheets of paper some of the details revealed by WikiLeaks’s Friday dump of Clinton’s emails.
