Скандал вокруг разговора генерала Флинна с российским послом получил продолжение. Целых девять источников рассказали Washington Post на условиях анонимности, что речь в разговоре шла о санкциях, объявленных Обамой, и что Флинн по сути советовал Путину, как отреагировать на санкции, обещая вернуться к этому вопросу после вступления Трампа в должность.

Тем самым Флинн грубо нарушил федеральный закон, Logan Act, запрещающий частным лицам вести несанкционированные переговоры от лица страны. Вдобавок он грубо врал, когда сведения о его разговоре просочились в печать, и подключил к своему вранью вице-президента Пенса.

Nine current and former officials, who were in senior positions at multiple agencies at the time of the calls, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence matters. All of those officials said ­Flynn’s references to the election-related sanctions were explicit. Two of those officials went further, saying that Flynn urged Russia not to overreact to the penalties being imposed by President Barack Obama, making clear that the two sides would be in position to review the matter after Trump was sworn in as president.

От демократов в Конгрессе сразу раздались голоса с требованием отставки Флинна.

“It's clear that concerns about General Flynn's ties to Russia were well warranted. It's unacceptable that during the transition, General Flynn discussed lifting sanctions with Russia's ambassador. This action would be deeply troubling under any circumstances, but considering Russia’s effort to tip the election toward President Trump, the General's actions are disqualifying. And if General Flynn negotiated with Russia to change American policy, he may be in violation of the Logan Act, which bars such conduct. The President must relieve General Flynn immediately.

“To make matters worse, the Administration has been misleading the public about this situation ever since. Either General Flynn lied to the Administration or the Administration lied to the American people. In any case, the Administration's sloppy handling of such a serious issue creates a threat smack in the middle of our national security apparatus.

“We need to sort this mess out. Congress must conduct a thorough, nonpartisan investigation into Russia's illegal interference in our election and take steps to punish those responsible.”
