That tree is adorable I absolutely love it!

I also love that you did an Advent that is increbily sweet. I adore advents but Mario isnt big on presents. He never grew up with them. He's gotten much more used to it since me but he still can't go out on his own and shop or do things. He just wrapped his very first present ever a few nights ago! (and I had to bug him and take him shopping to get him to buyme a present. lol) I grew up with advents from my mom and I do so miss them. Its something small but so special to look forward to every day. Such a lovely tradition.

Oh France at Christmas sounds marvelous. and so lovely that you guys gt to spend it together!

Merry christmas!!!

That's crazy and intriguing! Is it just his family, or is it not part of traditional culture? What about other occasions? It must be bewildering for him, haha. Yes, I really like the fact that it's just something small - that seems the essence of present-giving, that it doesn't need to be some huge, expensive item, just a little gift that you know the person wouldn't buy for themselves.

I hope you have a lovely holiday my dear!

i think its just his family. they were very very poor growing up with A LOT of kids in rural Mexico so it was not something they did   so i think even as they moved here and got older it never became tradition. they buy gifts fir his niece but not amongst adults.  while we were dating i apparently got him his first ever birthday present and first Christmas stocking.

its still si weird for me because my mom was HUGE on presents for every single holiday (even Palestine and st. Patrick)....but it was never about the money it wad just little earnings or a new pair of sick but she made it special by decorating while i slept or filling the house with cheap balloons or holiday themed foods so I've been so spoiled about holidays and wanting then special.  so its been interesting especially since we got married because he tries because he knows i love holidays and gifts but i have to remind him and he doesn't do anything near as grand as my mom (she put so much thought and time into the little things like you are with the advent....its not ( ... )

Ahhh, that's certainly understandable. How old was Mario when they moved? It's quite exciting that you get to do this stuff and surprise him, at least :)

Having the house decorated while you sleep sounds quite magical ♥

Hehehe, my favourite typo was 'Palestine' for 'Valentine's' :P

It really was lovely :) We really missed each other last Christmas, so it was very exciting to put up decorations, eat Christmassy food, listen to Chritmas music, etc. together this time ♥ It is indeed little things that become good memories :D Thank you! It was very relaxing, and I definitely feel reinvigorated and ready to attack the next mountain of paperwork the French government throws at us! How was the beach? Hahaha, it is a bizarre idea indeed xD What are your traditional Christmassy foodstuffs?

I found the generosity of everyone in it really heart-warming - I definitely hope I can keep participating :)

Stacia sends her Happy New Year wishes to you :D!

Homemade advent calendar! That is the best. I really enjoyed reading all the stories about kind strangers, that was a lovely and inspired thing to ask for. And the Japanglish, ahhaha XD My mom bought me a great shirt from Taiwan with terrible typo-ridden French on it which I can't wear in public. So tragic.

Merriest of Christmases to you! <33

Now that I look at the photo of my homemade advent calendar again, I notice how truly squinty it is... Luckily, that was mostly deliberate :D I got a lot out of finding wee bits and pieces to hide all over the place :) Yes! That was definitely my favourite wish, in the end, really restored my faith in humanity! Oh man, that sounds promising >:D Do you remember off the top of your head what it says?

I hope you had a lovely time yourself!

I had a marvelous holiday, glad to hear you had a good one too! :)

I don't know it by heart, but I have fetched it for your viewing pleasure (from the remote and hostile land of my upstairs bedroom). It says--are you ready for this?--it says:

PARIS et ses monuments
guide pratigue dw visirau chernin de for motrpoetaim [sic, all the sics ever]

It starts out good, then wobbles, then falls down two flights of stairs heavily inebriated XD

XDD I am not sure I will ever be quite ready for the deciphering of "motrpoetaim"! This seems like the sort of phrase that I'll try to keep in the back of my mind to bring out (without explanation maybe?) at any future uncomfortable dinner parties. Thank you for braving the terrors of your faraway room to bring this gift :D
