Seditionaries Sid-vicious style sweater

Dec 19, 2007 03:32

Hi to all the punk smockers and threadbangers here,

As a first attempt at knitting thought I'd try to make one of those viv westwood seditionaries style jumpers - the ones made out of mohair with big holes that look like they've been knitted on broomhandles?
I figure that given the size of the needles, it might be a relatively quick project, and any ( Read more... )

Mmmm...Sex Pistols...but I do have to mention that it's Johnny Rotten in your pic, not Sid.

Seems easy enough, huge needles for the body, smaller needles for the neck/wrist/waist edges.

You could just do the square for the front, square for the back and then rectangles or tubes for the arms. Stitch it all together loosely, it shouldn't be perfect, or else it wouldn't be punk.

Just remember that with a gauge this large, it's going to stretch a ton, so knit it a bit smaller than you want it to be.

there is london calling in stitch n' bitch nation which is more westwoodish than bam13.

currently i am making a tree jacket westwood style. basically the idea is too use a yarn that is fluffy and thin (mohair or mohair blend) and needles that are big so that it creates an airy fabric. and you want a sweater with little shaping to give it that hang loose look. in my case the pattern called for a thicker yarn than what i am using, so i had to use thicker needles to get the gauge than what would traditionally be used with that yarn. the result is the same sweater shape as the pattern but with that awesome loose-knit fabric. this makes it easier since you have a pattern to follow.

i am not sure if i am making any sense here. i am highly undercafeinated atm. but if you want to email me i will gladly assist further.

Hi thanks to one and all for the advice,

Since there's nothing online I'll definitely be getting one of those books.
loudxmouse - Respeck to the Mighty Boosh! that episode is brilliant, I saw them live last year.
angelpix - oops, mea culpa - that's a photo of umm.. Glen Matlock of course!

So... I shall probably start off with the simple shapes as you suggested Angelpix, and for a second attempt try something along the lines you described Steladecadente.
The transitions from the collars and cuffs to main body are not something I know how to do yet!

this is a scrapbook image of various Westwood sweaters if anyone needs reference for this subject:

the needle size will really depend on the thickness of your yarn, i know that isn't awfully helpfull but to give you an idea, you can get something really loose and airy looking with just a size 9.0mm (US13) and a lace/sock weight yarn. of course if you want to use a worsted weight yarn of course you will need to go a bit thicker on the needle. i really recommend that you pick your yarn and than buy a few size needles and make swatches with each to see which fabric you like best. than from there a pattern can be written :)

OMG! That's the sweater I keep posting about!

FTW!!!!!!!

I think i need to get some turkey basters to whip one of those babies up!

I love your Icon. My hubby got me seasons one and two for my birthday. I love Brian Ferry and I just about fell over during that episode. He could walk down the street totally unrecognized in the US.
