ok, i know my specific issue is about crochet, but the solution could apply to knitting as well. i'm sure someone's been in this situation with a large knit piece, as well.
ok, the summer interweave crochet is a laugh a minute, if you know where to look. start by looking at the blocking directions for the 'poncho' on the cover (i refuse to admit that thing is an actual item of wearable clothing). i bet that's the only pattern whose blocking instructions tell you to freeze your finished project...
and then we come to the afghan made with 23 skeins of koigu. yeah, that's pretty funny as it is (and definite proof that interweave designers don't have to pay for their yarn). the pattern as written is baby-sized (again funny, as who would spend that much on a baby afghan? i can't even justify buying enough koigu for a pair of socks) but i'm doing it in worsted-weight yarn, to make an afghan big enough to throw over the back of the couch. the finishing directions, after saying to assemble the afghan, say 'block'. oh shit. that'd be hard enough with a baby afghan, but the one i'm making is much bigger than that.
so, any idea on how to block a large afghan? i live in a tiny apartment.
