It seems like love and need are two very specific types of motivations.
"need" should be able to be justified to a certain degree. I'm not saying that we should be able to justify having a need... but we should be able to justify the "something" that we say we need.
in your example, if someone says "I need to travel," we must justify this as an actual necessity.
Love, on the other hand is not generally something we feel the need to justify, but maybe we should.
I think most of the time people think of "want" as the only one of these three we really have a choice about.... but in reality it's nothing more than a product of other motivations..
in a way when we say we want... it's a cop out, because we are not assigning any specific motivation for wanting and therefore cannot be called out on it.
