i know it doesn't have any real bearing on the story, but what do NHS & MRSA stand for??
i also think, that instead of collectively paying the $5 mil, the broadcast comp's should have been fined $5 mil EACH. with all the broadcast comps we have, that collective payment is just a drop in the bucket to them...

Mrsa is a type of staph infection that is resistent to some antibiotics. NHS is Natitional Health Services i think.

Oh, it totally didn't cross my mind that people wouldn't know those! Sorry :S

British hospitals have been having problems for the past few years with MRSA being passed on to patients due to, in some cases, poor hygiene in the hospitals. Not all hospitals but some. It became a real problem there for a awhile and the news latched onto it before they got caught up on some other story and left it alone. Doesn't mean it's not still happening though!

It might happen across the pond, but not here.

I doubt it. The BBC keep getting fined for random, stupid stuff - Russel Brand & Jonathan Ross's prank phone call, a presenter lighting a pipe inside a studio - but all the others that aren't funded by tax's would never be sued. At least, so far they haven't been.
