prologue | one
lee jinki opened his eyes and let the tears escaped from his eyes from the bitter memory he had just remembered. the pain inside his heart wouldn’t be healed. he would never be the same person from his past. he wouldn’t be onew anymore. he removed the nickname and wanted to be a new person, a person who wasn’t extrovert, famous or perfect. he just wanted to change himself oppositely. the new lee jinki would be introvert and quiet. he would be a nerd and forget his past as a supple person. his changing would, at least, bring no harm for anyone. he just didn’t want incident of his former beloved repeated.
he sighed. he shut his eyes and calmed himself down. he didn’t want his first day in a new high school decorated with his puffy face. he slapped his cheeks to make him awake.
a very nerd clothing, checked. a heavy bag, checked. a usual shoes, checked. last touch, thick glasses. he picked the glasses from the drawer and observed it carefully. the glasses were changmin’s joke back then. changmin said he was jealous to people who observed jinki with such desire. he bought the glasses and forced jinki to use it, playfully. in the end, jinki used it anyway. but, since the stylish clothing that jinki wore, the glasses looked chic rather than nerd. changmin laughed and pulled the glasses off and gave jinki a kiss.
“people would adore you more if you kept wearing it. i don’t need people undressing you with their eyes.” changmin chuckled.
but, when jinki put the glasses on his nose, with un-stylish clothing he was wearing, the glasses were just nerdy, no sign of chic with it. then, he hung the bag on his back. he was ready to go.
his new high school was a high scored high school in korea. the students were well graded and clever. other than that, they were rich and good looking. but, jinki had decided to be a nerd. he had abandoned his glory past with memory about changmin. the school had dorms and jinki lived in one of them in a single room. at least, he had his privacy and he could keep his secret (his handsomeness and richness) for himself.
he stepped his feet out from his dorm with a sigh. he was going to face a new life. he was going to change. and he would forget about his bitter past. he would keep the memory inside his heart and tied it tight so no one would know and it wouldn’t hurt him.
“my name is lee jinki.” he introduced shortly in front of the class. all students were looking at him weirdly. he knew, it was caused all students in the school were not nerdy-type like him. for them, a person like jinki was new.
“er…” the teacher spoke, “won’t you tell them more about you, your former school, for example?”
“my former school was dr high school.” he continued (again) shortly.
the teacher sighed dejectedly and let him take a seat, “okay. you’ll be choi minho’s chair mate, lee jinki.”
a choir of groans was heard from the girls. jinki noticed that that choi minho boy might be, let’s say, like he had been some times ago. the teacher pointed at the boy who was raising his hand on seat in the back of the class.
“yes, he will seat with choi minho, girls! now, quiet! we’re going to start the lesson.” the teacher said, “oh, i almost forgot to introduce my self. i’m your class teacher, kim jungmo. now, jinki, you can go to your seat and we’ll start.”
jinki nodded quietly and stepped toward the said spot. he could feel all glances toward him hardened every closer step he took. but, he decided to ignore it. it was his decision to be like that, so it was his risk to be treated like that. he glanced to the smiling boy with empty chair beside him and put his bag on the table.
“hi! i’m choi minho.” the minho boy extended his arm to get shaken. jinki looked at the hand and straightened his sight to the front of the class.
“i’ve known you name. and you’ve known mine. it’s no need to re-introduce yourself.” he answered coldly. then, he pulled out his textbook and his notebook from his bag, silently preparing for the lesson.
minho looked taken aback and pulled back his arm, “err, o-okay. nice to meet you, jinki.”
“hm.” was all jinki’s answer.

“he must be just shy. or maybe he’s a real nerd.” jonghyun gave minho an answer after the tall boy had told the accident earlier with jinki.
“is he that cold, hyung? i want to see him.” taemin, the lost middle schooler, asked him. well, he wasn’t really lost. but, his behavior and body were just like middle schooler, so they forced him to call him hyung even though they were on the same grade.
“yeah, taeminnie.” minho sighed, “he’s like an introvert for me.”
“hey, what have i missed?” kibum, or he wanted to be called key, came between their conversation.
“oh, hi, baby!” jonghyun greeted his lover and sneaked his arm on key’s waist, just to be slapped by the divaish boy.
“no pda in the school, jjong. i‘ve told you, people like us wouldn’t be accepted in korea.” key hissed.
“i forget, sorry.” jonghyun sighed dejectedly.
yes, minho, jonghyun, key and taemin were all gays. no one knew about that. they didn’t want anyone know that. they kept it as their secret. behind their fames, they had that unexpected fact. minho was known as a tall and calm boy, a skillful basket ball player and handsome person. jonghyun was known with his golden voice, all vocal awards in teachers’ office were his gifts. key was known as the diva of the group, stylish and had good eyes on fashion. taemin was the maknae, he was the youngest of their group, and people knew him as a cute, lovable boy. they were from different classes. they were the most famous boys in their school. people adored them. the boys wanted to be their friends and the girls wanted to be their lover. but, hey, they didn’t need them all. he didn’t want to risk themselves about their ‘little secret’.
“oh! it’s him!” minho signaled to his friends. they saw jinki had just come into the canteen and he was ordering something on the counter.
“really??” key tapped his chin, “oh, god! my hands are itchy to make him over! look at that clothing! yuck! he needs help!”
minho just rolled his eyes at his friend’s statement and observed the jinki boy approaching the cornered, quiet, and abandoned seat at the corner of the canteen. he was sure jinki didn’t want to be disturbed.
“why is he sitting there alone? why doesn’t he make friends?” jonghyun asked minho.
minho shrugged, “i don’t know. he’s weird. i’ve told you he even didn’t grab my hand when i offered him.”
“is he…hiding something?” taemin asked.
jonghyun and minho shrugged and continued eating their meals. key was still blabbering about he had to save jinki’s poor soul from the fashion-terrorist clothing jinki was wearing.

“i saw you in the canteen yesterday, jinki.” minho whispered to his chair mate, trying to break the ice wall between them. but, jinki just kept landing his sight on the textbook on their table and gave a little, but stabbing, word.
“so?”
minho sighed, “what did i do to you? why do you so hate me?”
“i don’t hate anyone. this is my second day. why do i have to hate anyone in such a short time?” jinki asked cleverly. he flipped another page of the textbook and kept reading.
“so, why don’t you start making friends?” minho asked again, “we’re social creature. we have to make friends.”
“does it matter to you?” jinki hissed, finally looking at minho, “last time i learned, it’s not your business.”
“we-well…i know…bu-but…i just want to know. you need fri- ”
“i don’t need anybody!” jinki hissed lowly. he raised his hand in sudden. for a second, minho thought the nerd would report him being nosy, but jinki just excused for bathroom. their teacher let him and continued their lesson.
minho sighed in relief and leaned back on his chair, “oh, hell. why does he so suck?”

minho had been thought it was a mistake to tell his friends about that, especially kim fucking jonghyun. the dino boy laughed whole heartedly after minho had finished about what almost made him get heart-attack in the class.
“you’re stupid!” jonghyun laughed, “of course he wouldn’t report you! we’re no longer a kids, aish!”
“ya!!” minho hit his arm, “how could i know?! he raised his hand in sudden! it freaked the hell out of me!”
“stop laughing, jonghyun. or i’ll make you stop by myself.” key threatened the laughing boy. jonghyun was silenced immediately. minho silently thanked key for it with his smile.
“why are you so curious about this boy, minho?” key asked him seriously. minho shrugged and chewed his chips.
“he’s just…different. i mean, look, all students in our school is none like him, nerdy, book wormy and else.” minho answered properly.
taemin nodded, “he’s caught by my eyes easily. i mean, it’s not because he is stylish and eye-catching. but, he’s the opposite. he’s weird, shortly.”
“oh, come on, guys!” jonghyun groaned, “why are we talking about him? isn’t our purpose come to minho’s place to have fun?”
the three others exchanged gazes and smiled awkwardly.
“you’re right, baby.” key commented, giving jonghyun a kiss right on the lips. minho and taemin pretended to puking and ran away when key started chasing them.
the calm minho was none like calm boy if it had come to his friends.
