It was not that Yeul was deliberately being contrary to safety. She had handwavily enjoyed both the early and late safaris over the course of their stay but had found them to be peculiarly stifling

Speaking of people who weren't Yeul, people who were prone to worry...
Jono had been in Africa for half a week now without incident, and a half a week without really doing much at all besides. It only stood to reason that on his last day here, something was bound to go awry. And if that was the case, it certainly wasn't going to happen in the lodge, students throwing wild parties aside.
Jonothon had half a mind to just go out and appreciate the sights and sounds of Africa while he was here, damn it, but he was wearing his collar as he walked, just to be on the safe side. A quiet walk as the sun started to go down... It was cool enough to wear his coat, this way, without too much discomfort, and dark enough that he didn't have to pull it up over his face to keep people from staring.
That worked out nicely. Maybe the walk itself would, too.
Really, overall, it was a nice evening. It wasn't pouring rain, there were no rhinos charging out of the bush or anything...
There was a bit of a shadow in the tall grass that drew Jonothon's attention momentarily, but he left it some space, keeping watch of it from the corner of his eye. If he didn't bother it, it was more likely than not to leave him be, after all. And further off, a... student? It was difficult to tell in the darkness just who, but she seemed to be out a little late, for someone wandering alone.
... Look, he was allowed to be hypocritical, here. He could more than hold his own.
If there was a rustling in the long grass, it was not a sound that registered to Yeul. The wind provided enough noise to cover it and, had she heard it, she would have assumed it had nothing to do with her in any case.
She kept walking, her limp only being paid attention to enough to make sure she didn't step anywhere that would throw her off balance. She wandered aimlessly and contently and utterly unaware that, yes, she was being followed.
Unaware that what was following her was slowly creeping closer.

She wandered, quietly bemused at the lack of monsters, and lost in thought. It was a good night for a walk, peaceful and comfortable.
It helped, of course, that even if there was danger to be found, Yeul remained unconcerned.
