This is possibly one of my favorite videos I’ve ever made (or in a really long time). I had a hard time making this. It was making me into a big ball of mess and giving me way too many FEELS. I was on the verge of crying so many times. I would put like one or two clips down and just lose my shit while making the ugliest sad faces.
I’ve been a big fan of Troye since “TRXYE” released and have been following him ever since. Then Wild EP and Blue Neighbourhood happened. I actually never thought I would ever vid the Trilogy music videos, until Anoel requested this for Festivids. When I saw the request, I kept thinking. "OMG! I would have never thought to request this." Then I started thinking, hmmm.. "I think I could try to find a song to make a video to this." The song, “Memo" came to my mind so easily, especially since I’ve been so obsessed with Years & Years that it didn’t take very long for me to be like, “YES this works, omg it works.. and Olly is singing about a guy he wants.. YES!! Perfect song.. Let’s do this!!” So I literally got started on this video right away even before Festivids Assignments went out. I was too excited to wait.
I knew it would be a heartbreaking vid, but I really did not expect to get extremely emotional about it. I guess it's how I pieced the vid together plus the combination of the emotional song.. Something just gave me very strong emotional feelings about it more than when I watched the actual music videos.
I did take my time with this video. I finished it in November. In December, A Directors Cut version of all 3 videos was temporarily released (Christmas Gift from Troye) and there was extra clips/footage and it was perfect to replace some of the clips that I wasn’t entirely feeling in the video (some of them were so random! Glad those extra clips were released and I got to use them!).
I wanted to integrate Troye’s past video into “Memo". I felt like there were some of those extra reminiscing type scenes from Happy Little Pill that worked really well for this - Even though his hairstyle was clearly different from the Trilogy MV's, haha! Maybe no one noticed though, If you were too busy staring at his face. Crazy though how well HLP worked with the childhood clips, with him lying on the bed - then the shot of them lying down as kids on the beach; The scene where he is watching TV reminds him of the time when they were kids playing video games on the TV.. The splash of the water scene - and then the shot of Troye splashing water in his face. I’m really happy with the decision to include that video into this. I did this also to the rest of the video where the Present brought on the scenes of the Past. I also included videos that he filmed himself and posted on his Youtube - because they were pretty and they made the vid extra pretty!
As far as my absolute favorite part/section of the video, goes to 2:43 - 2:46 is the section that really kills me *Aka the screenshot of my video graphic*. I also thought that 2:29 - 2:35 came out really lovely and fits perfectly to the beat of the song and lyrics. I really loved how the intro came out with the "Light” scenes followed by the kids feet swinging while they are up in the tree.
