The Big Grump in the Big Apple | RP with asinthecity & drcampbell

The drive to New York with his best mate had been interesting, to say the least. When they left Princeton, Lachlan was in a vile mood. Just the look on his face had said it all. It seemed early mornings didn't mix very well with nicotine withdrawal, sexual frustration, lost music mojo, and a broken arm. For the first half hour of the drive, Lachlan ( Read more... )

Tab bounded down the wooden stairs of the older building, the converted home now studio space. She was having a break from the actual recording to review what was already done, and do some fine tuning. She launched herself at Riley, and hung off him easily. "Hey there, beanpole and friend!"

Lachlan cut his reading off and spun around. He watched the twin PDA and felt a twinge in his gut. He couldn't help but wonder if his wee ones would've been as close as Riley and his sister if the other one had survived. Pat had just a strong a bond with his brother, too. Lachlan, who'd never had siblings, had always been envious of it, but proud to be close enough to experience it.

He started to drum his fingers on his thight and shifted his weight from one foot to another. He needed a fucking smoke. Where the hell was Riley hiding them? He managed a smile, though. Being in a bad mood with Riley was one thing... Riley had seem him through much worse than that... but he wouldn't inflict it on anyone didn't know very well. "Heya," he greeted her.

Riley slung his arm around Tab's shoulder and used her as a leaning post. "Say hello to MacShitty, squirt," he sniggered, smirking at his friend. "Careful, he might bite."

"Can I call him Grump McShitty?" Tab asked her brother hopefully. Then she stuck out her hand and smiled at Lachlan. "Sorry, but I like nicknames. Nothing personal. I think I only use Riley's name when it's serious. Anyway, welcome to New York and the studio and history in the making!"

"I also don't need you looking like somebody died." Tab clamped her hand over her mouth and her brown eyes went wide. "Fuck, sorry. I didn't mean--" She groaned against her hand before dropping it to start playing again. She huffed out a breath to blow her fringe out of her eyes, and her lips twisted in a wry smile. "I can take requests." Her gaze flicked to her brother. "Reasonable requests."

She sauntered over to where the spare drum kit sat. Benny always took his own kit home with him every night, scared something might happen to his precious drums. This kit was the one that Tab had been practicing on. More instruments littered the edges of the studio room, and there was a window that showed the control room where they took care of the actual recording.

"Ach, it's okay. Seriously. Dinnae feel the need to walk on eggshells around me. I'm pretty thick-skinned. I dinnae want people feeling awkward around me. I owe you an apology. I must seem completely rude. Things have just been surreal for me lately. I cannae play. I dinnae know why. All this..." He glanced around. "My band and I were offered a recording contract right before the whole shit with my ex happened. It's kind of bittersweet for me being in a studio. Please dinnae think its anything to do with your music. It's fucking brilliant. The invitation here means a fuck load to me."

Riley looked at Lachlan in surprise. "I didn't know you had a contract. You should have a go or something. Mess around with Tab. She won't hold it against you if you suck."

"That's right, I only ever hold that kind of thing against my big bro, so you're safe," Tab assured Lachlan. "And that's pretty cool that you got offered a contract. It sucks why you didn't get to pursue it, but that's still a major thing. And you're welcome. I'm just glad you could make it."
