"You look exhausted," Tara said quietly. "I should shove you down in the seat next to Lachie and tuck you both in. You must've driven non-stop to get from the west coast this fast. I don't know whether to kiss you or chastise you."
Her eyes turned to Lachlan. "He needs you. We both need all the support we can get until he gets through this trial." She rubbed her eyes tiredly. "He spent a good portion of the night crying and being sick. I just want it all over."
"I'm here," Riley promised. "And I'm not going anywhere until it's over. He doesn't look well, love. Is he even going to be able to function to get to court tomorrow? Is there anything you need or want me to do? Have you got everything you need?"
Tara pushed her hair back and untangled the IV from her wrist. "He'll make himself function. I don't know how to further explain that. He'll find it in him to get through it, but after it's over, I'm so scared he's going to break again. I'm hoping I can just drag him into bed and we don't get out for a week. At least if he breaks, he doesn't have far to fall in bed."
She shook her head. "He has everything he needs. Just... will you take care of him for me? Between you, Pat, Beth, my parents, and his, I'm hoping he'll have the strength to get through."
"Always, Tara. Whenever you can't, you know we'll all be there to step in." Riley rubbed the back of her hand. "What about you? Do you have everything you need?"
