Normally I don't have any trouble being awake this early but today, it's difficult. La Donna was writing a very long letter while she was eating her breakfast and Alessio's brother is still wearing the same suit he had on when I met him, although it's been cleaned every day, thank the Gods. "We'll be home soon, I promise. I just don't want to run the risk of anyone taking you away from me. Not now," Alessio told her with a little kiss. "You need to be in that school like I need a hole in my head."

Valeria hugged him tight. "I don't want to go to that school, but I worry about you," she said. "La Donna and your brother get so involved with everything, they don't pay attention even to themselves, and you get so tired hobbling around on those crutches without me to lean on."

"Are you kidding? I'll be winning footraces with these things soon," Alessio said, holding up one crutch with a grin, trying to be lighthearted for her. "You won't be able to catch up, I'll be so fast on them. Maybe even go for endurance trials."

Valeria laughed in spite of herself, but afterward she sighed. "Still, I heard her talking to her cousin, the strange one, and they sounded worried. I can't help but think that maybe it's a dangerous trip and I should be there to guard you--and her--even if I never set foot on the grounds of the school. I don't know what either slúagh or fomori are, but she told your sourpuss brother they might run into them down that track."

For a moment, Alessio thought about this, then he shook his head. "She'll know what they are and she'll know best what Nico and I should do to keep her safe. The less of us there are, going down that track, the less notice we should attract." He paused, licking his lips. "I just...I know you could guard us. I know. But I really want you to stay as far away from that school as possible until we're married, love. It's not safe."
