There is a general AHEWniverse request post over here, where the three of us are taking prompts for shortfic that occurs in the margins of the main story (check the post for examples of the kinds of prompts we're looking for). Just a heads-up for any interested parties. And I do need to actually get stuff done within that continuity. Next big ( Read more... )

I don't really see much of a pattern. I suppose maybe something about characters changing the status quo (America, Kirk, Kara, I think that could apply to Suzaku but I never finished Geass, maaaaaybe Ciel in the two chapters of the manga I read. Seishirou, Subaru and Hokuto character arcs are kinda tied into that in some aspects through the narrative of TB/X).

As people they're pretty varied, but that might appeal to you. Variety and all.

*nod* The variety probably does -- and ha, seeing as how my metanarrative is basically about the need for change coupled with the need to break stasis and move forward, I can definitely see that. That theme definitely applies to Suzaku, sssssort of with Ciel, who's sort of in the middle of social/global change at least as far as the anime's concerned, and I think the change theme definitely crops up in TB/X.

I can't find a pattern as well, but I guess you like those who "buck the trend", or, as a_white_rain has said, changing the status quo?

Ciel and Hisoka makes me think you like characters who should have been broken by their personal tragedies, but came out somewhat stronger?

Ohhh do I ever. Or, well, those who are completely broken in the head by their personal tragedies but do interesting things instead of sitting around and moping about it! Basically, I like to see really fucked-up characters doing their best to cope with life, and sometimes/often failing at it, I think. The struggle for redemption and recovery is what interests me, not so much the attaining of it. (...this also applies to Kara, Roland, and Justin, not just to Hisoka and Ciel.)

It would, though Subaru is less about the recovery and more about the downward spiral. Then again, I like inverted tropes in general and inversions of recovery arcs in particular, even if I end up sitting in a corner and going "ow ow ow" afterwards a lot. So yes, Subaru counts -- and I guess Sei does too, in a way, but I honestly think I'm drawn to him more because I like hypocrites a lot. (See: Suzaku.)

I don't know the other titles, but the similiarities between America and Kirk are pretty obvious: brash, determined, cocky, a little self-centered but well-meaning, brave and optimistic. Is this what draws them to you, or is there something else, deeper that I have missed?

I think the qualities you listed are big draws. That and the fact that both of them are kind of doofs -- that's the big reason I like Mark Two Kirk so much better than Shatner, because the other characters aren't nearly as enamored with his cockiness as he himself is. I don't think I'd like America or Kirk nearly so much were they not kind of losers.

They are big doof parties, aren't they? XD And yeah, they both like to think they are the best things to hit the universe since the Big One, but everyone else kind of wants to hit them upside the head and shove them in a closet/escape pod. I think a lot of it comes from them being kind of broken, which people hardly see, because they mostly see the bravado.

They kind of are succesful losers, aren't they?

I'm sure this is no help but for some reason the fact that you couldn't pick between Death, Delirium and The Corinthian and that you WON'T pick between the Sumeragi twins and Seishirou amused me to no end...

...Just see the six of them interact would be awesome, Death and Hokuto would so get along....

brb shipping Corinthian/Seishirou really hard.

It's the eye thing, man.

(Death and Hokuto would be adorable together! They could feed pigeons and talk about how silly their brothers are. ♥)

I suck at picking favorites in general, though. Favorite pairings, favorite characters, the mere prospect of picking favorite books makes me want to cry...

Why is that hot for some odd reason.

Great now I'm getting a bigger eye fetish than from Clamp...

And ahaha I know you feel, I'm that way with RPing sometimes--can't pick who I want to be cause I love them too much.

Also is that...an X cosplay icon?

It is! Mith and I cosplay Seishirou and Subaru, respectively.

I don't know whether the eye fetish started with Sandman or CLAMP for me, but I think they have reinforced one another. -- Fullmetal Alchemist didn't help, either. I think I've been gushing over eyepatches since, like, high school.

I like Death because she is the only sensible one in a cast of loonies (which is the same reason I like Lithuania from Hetalia, probably). The Corinthian -- uh, I like charming serial killers. *cough*

The damage is a big draw, yes. I like characters who are broken in the head, and who have to cope with that, somehow. Even if their coping strategies really suck. Actually, that makes them more compelling...
